Remember when the Royals were running away with the MLB and had a Godly record? Royals 86-61, Dodgers 85-61.
Crept up on both the Pirates and Cubbies. Could have home field against everyone in MLB except.....those damn birds.
I think winning your division overrides record, on the off chance the Cubs/Pirates beat STL. League Championship Series Until 1998, the LCS alternated home-field advantage with a 2-3 format in the best-of-5 era (1969–84) and a 2-3-2 format when it went to best-of-7 (1985–present). Now home-field advantage goes to the team with the best record, or in the case of a wild card team vs. divisional winner, the divisional winner would receive home-field advantage. Hmmm I'm trying to think of a recent example to validate this. I was certain it was based solely on record.
I was speaking to his post about catching the Royals, but that's correct. We're in front of the Jays now too, hot as they've been.
2007 NLDS. Rockies won 90 games (including the play-in game vs the Padres) and were the wild card. Phillies won 89 and were the East champs. Phillies had home field. Whether or not the Rockies had only won 89 as well, I don't think would have mattered. The MLB playoffs give advantage to division winners until the World Series when it's the winning league of the all star game that has home field.
They made a big fuss about MLB's format 2-3 weeks ago when the NBA changed their playoff format...were saying that MLB/Manfred should follow the NBA's lead.
It means nothing. Place in the standings means nothing. Winning championships is all that matters. Look at the fucking Giants. Division titles don't mean shit. Anything other than a title is a failed season. Unless you accept mediocrity.
Everyone understands that the playoffs are a crap shoot, dude. That's neither here nor there. Whether you think it matters or not, it was the passing along of information because someone asked.
