Couldn't get on the site last night...but Wood was fantastic. Those who supported him were absolutely right...
I guess when he's got command, he's as good as anyone. Hope it keeps up.
That's what we must have when we are going with the baby offense like last night
Kinda felt sorry for Wood when Donnie took him out, but DBB is going pretty damn good right now, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

However, 78 pitches did earn him a complete game shot. And Kenley is not totally automatic. Sometimes he gives up 3 run HRs...
I think it would have been a great confidence builder to let the kid go out for the ninth..but, that is just me.
    He deserved it.

    totally agree
but the naysayers will say we need kenley to be on track for the postseason, and the only way to do that is by putting him out there as often as possible
so I guess I get it from that perspective
still, if ever a kid deserved a shot to finish
imagine how kersh might have reacted if dbb tried to take him out in the same situation after only 78 pitches...

Dick move by DBB by not letting him at least go out there for the ninth inning. I don't hate him nearly as much as most all of you, but this really made me pissed. Fuck him, that is BS. He earned that right and should've pitched the ninth.

I don't know if i'd say that, but I would say that he had 2 days off, today is an off day, tomorrow is Greinke/Locke (pretty lopsided) and saturday is Kershaw, who we know could be trusted to 9 anytime, so conceivably he could have gone 6 days without an appearance, likely 7, as Cole pitches for the Bucs on sunday.

DBB has been reasonable as a motherfucker as of late. The September call ups, the weakened schedule down the stretch, and the cushion in the division has had a hand in it all, but cred given when it's due regardless.

Now, I wanna see how he handles this Seager/Rollins/Turner issue. Seager isn't making it easy...or is he?

Kenley is better with rest actually. When he pitches constantly, as he might have to, he shows signs of weakness. As a huge guy, his physical strength doesn't much his size, IMO.
And as Vinny has told us about 50 times, Zack is a six inning pitcher...so there is an almost zero chance of him not getting work in.
Even Kershaw...how many CGs does he have?
It boils down to the kid deserved a chance...what happened to the "players manager"?
Kershaw would have told him to go fuck himself.
And IDK about the " pretty lopsided" comment either...

One thing I will say, maybe it was wrong maybe it was right to do what he did but at the end of the day it was a great game for Wood AND Kenley

Wood gets a huge bounce back game and now has two great games with a shitty one sandwiched in between. 8 scoreless innings with the thought that he coulda gone 9 (and the 9th wasn't ruined by him or Kenley fucking up). And Kenley comes back from a damn bad outing in Arizona to take care of the Rockies easily

    my bad
i didn't mean as often as humanly possible
i meant whenever the appropriate opportunity arose
i thought the kid deserved to go out for the 9th, but what if (hypothetically) he had given up a couple runs and had to be removed (anyway)?
at least he left the game with a good feeling, not on a negative
probably overthinking it, but who cares?... we win the game and the series, and that's what matters most

Agree with this, I think in the end it looks great. Wood feels great about his outing, so does Kenley.

That was Wood's game to finish. Mattingley is an idiot for taking him out. Kenley doesn't need to figure anything out. He's fine. He's just been extremely unlucky.

Just my :2cents:...if Wood went out there in the 9th and barfed up the lead before Donnie could yank him, then all of you Wood peckers :whatididthere: would have been all over Donnie's ass and kicked Wood in the nuts to boot.

You let him go out there. If he pitches and the first two guys get on, you yank him. You have to reward your players, especially young guys who recently haven't played well. If he had 100+ pitches, then MAYBE, but he had 78 pitches.

Who gives a rat's ass??? You gonna take those seats away from fans who want to see a playoff game, or (shudder) a World Series game? Fuck that noise.

Reduce the capacity. Somewhere around 48k.

Why? Are those extra seats costing you money?

You let him go out there and put the first two guys on...who the fuck bales him out? The bullpen has been a toilet bowl all season.

On the other hand, you put him out there WITH someone already throwing, and if he gets an out or two...then you roll the dice. If you let him put two guys on you've gone too far. I'm not saying you don't give him a shot, I'm just saying it has to be a VERY short leash.

Um, when did I say you don't have Kenley up in case? We are saying the same thing.
