My comments are about Eithier and Loney being on the payroll for next year. Not that I don't want either one but the reported payroll numbers for the Dodgers next year and the expected arbitration amounts for them and players already signed don't match.

With deferred salaries and expected arbitration amounts we are at 114 million plus. If that works for Frank great. Maybe reports of a 90 million payroll are excluding deferred salaries.

The dean of the Dodgers is now a free agent. The team did not tender a contract to Hong-Chih Kuo on Monday, the deadline to do so. Kuo, who has been with the organization since signing out of high school in Taiwan in June 1999, has arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow on October 28, the latest in a long line of arm troubles for Kuo.
Kuo went from the penthouse to the outhouse this season, with 23 walks in 27 innings and a 9.00 ERA, one season after setting a Dodgers record with a 1.20 ERA. He spent two different stints on the disabled list in 2011, including missing 36 games with an anxiety disorder while Kuo couldn't find the strike zone.
Kuo made $2.725 million in 2011, and with six DL trips in the last five years and coming off his fifth career left elbow surgery, it's understandable why the Dodgers wouldn't want to risk paying Kuo any kind of money in arbitration. If he does come back to the team - and Ned Colletti sounds interested - it will likely be an incentive-laden deal with a low base salary.
The Dodgers did tender contracts to Andre Ethier, Clayton Kershaw, and James Loney, which barring injury all but officially solidifies 13 of 14 opening day roster spots for non-pitchers:
    C A.J. Ellis
    1B James Loney
    2B Mark Ellis
    3B Juan Uribe
    SS Dee Gordon
    LF Juan Rivera
    CF Matt Kemp
    RF Andre Ethier
    ----------
    IF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr.
    OF Tony Gwynn Jr.
    2B/3B Adam Kennedy
    C Matt Treanor
The Dodgers now have 39 players on their 40-man roster. If the recent courting of Mike MacDougal bares any fruit, there is now an open spot on the roster so don't be surprised if a deal gets announced this week.

No surprises here, like a lot of us said, it was pretty obvious Ethier/Loney were getting tendered and there was no reason to believe otherwise

I think something got lost in the translation especially Eithier my question is being able to afford paying them come April if there is not ownership change prior to. Where does Sands fit into the roster these days with all of our recent signings?

With all of our recent signings, Sands is now officially the 3rd best player on our team. With our front office, that obviously makes him an Isotope.
