Ned did a good job here, not great but not terrible at all and reasonable. Props to the owners for giving the green light, and happy that Ethier allowed to talk during the year, unlike other players do, and wanted to stay and not test free agency. Kemp and Ethier, Dodgers until 35. Awesome
This is good news. Ethier for me would slot in nicely as a #5 hitter for a long time, now we need to sign a legit cleanup guy.
I'm happy with this. Who cares if it was too much $. That's what it took to keep him and the Dodgers made the decision that they were gonna do this. People are gonna hate on the contract. Oh well. We can afford it.
So, uh, when's the thread for when we sign Hamilton and have the greatest outfield of all time start?
some think this was too much money? That's a good price for Ethier with no no-trade clause to boot! It's a perfect length when you look at his age...a 6th year option also...this is a plus plus contract all around IMO.
I agree. No way I can call this a bad contract when I look at other recent contracts like Jayson Werth and Matt Cain. After Hamilton, Ethier figured to be the next best OFer on the market this winter by a long shot.
Signing Ethier is great news. Ned has been working on this all season. Sure, I'm willing to give the man a pat on the back for this - but no huggies - not unless his team of utility players actually wins the division.
TUESDAY: The Dodgers announced that they've reached an extension with Ethier. A press conference will take place at Dodger Stadium this afternoon. Ethier's option vests if he reaches an "easily attainable" plate appearances threshold late in the contract, Yahoo’s Tim Brown reports (on Twitter). It vests based on plate appearances in 2017 or 2016-17, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio adds (on Twitter).
Not sure yet. I'd hope it's on Prime Ticket at least, I'll post if I find anything out. Maybe it will be live streamed on dodgers.com.
