Dodgers are re-signing Chase Utley

Good fucking luck to Dave and this FO to find out where all these guys are going to fit on the roster

 

Have to think he (Utley) will be utilized at 3B some as well, you don't trade JDL for Forsythe unless you plan to play him a 130+ games at 2B.

 

I duno....these guys just clutter up the roster imo. I wonder if there are some trades on the horizon

 

Ship out McCarthy and Kazmir, both, at this point.

Dodgers need to open up three 40-man roster spots now: Romo, Gutierrez, Utley - I have to imagine they are close on trading some guys away, even if it's for scraps. At least one of those two have to be on their way out. Maybe SVS too?

 

Utley probably will play some 3B and maybe even some 1B on occasions.
However, planning to play Forsythe 130+ games doesn't really mean he's going to play 130+ games because he's a guy that's battled some health stuff in his career.
In 6 years in the bigs, only once has Forsythe played more than 130 games, so it's very prudent of them to bring Utley back in case Forsythe runs into any health related issues.

Don't know exactly what Chase will be, but he''ll serve well, I'm sure, whatever it is.
Stll a bit amazed that he was one of the "most despised" on my list for so long, along with the Quasimodo-like Romo, and now they are both members of the beloved.
I wanted Chase resigned, don't know about Romo, though. I do hope that's the last thing I read or hear about his gay romp years and endearment of the organization in SF...but I seriously doubt it.

Or they could just wait until February 17th and put Yimi, Ryu and Trayce on the 60-day DL, that would take them two weeks into the season before being able to be activated.

 

Likely scenario

 

The acquisitions the last two days are definitely peculiar. Don't get me wrong, I am entirely in favor of both the Utley and Gutierrez deals, but unless more than a couple injuries happen, there will be a logjam of out of options players vying for the bench. It does look like Forsythe could now be the regular 2B, but will likely play SS and 3B when the other two need a day off. Sure feels like they either have something in the works or we could see a couple DFA's at the end of spring training.
