If true, then Simmons to the Angels bears out my feelings on the matter. I really didn't see a fit. Taking on Simmons pretty much meant playing dominoes with the rest of the roster, not a good situation.

Let me re-phrase that, ...the only way I saw a fit for Simmons was in a flip.

Angels need to be focused on adding starting pitching.

Welp, nevermind. Also costing them their #1 prospect who is a frontline starter... that deal just got expensive

Ouch. Looking like the Braves abused them.

Spitballing here, but maybe the way they are building up their INF defense, Brett Anderson would be a candidate there.

I mean, Simmons is great and all, but you just gave up a potential ace when you're already really pitching starved. LHP that live in the upper 90's do not grow on trees.

They must be ready to go spend on some pitching otherwise this deal makes little sense.

Saw this on MLB Trade Rumors earlier...
While Andrelton Simmons‘ name has been a hot topic over the past 15 hours or so, there’s a “good chance” that the Braves will make Julio Teheran available at some point this winter.

That's a guy I'd love for us to pursue. His numbers won't excite anyone, but his talent is undeniable. With the proper tweaks, he could be a top of the rotation starter. Only 24 years old.

And they don't have a ton of flexibility because they have $130M committed to 7 guys, although about 1/3 is going to come off the books in Weaver/Wilson/Smith next winter, but I doubt we'll see them pursue Greinke, Price, Zimmerman and Cueto.

Man, just looking at the Angels top specs list and MLB has their top 5 all as pitchers and outside of Newcomb, all had mediocre to just plain not good years. Even though a lot of Newcomb's numbers are great, his control is gonna be an issue going forward. The Angels are gonna need to spend a lot of money to stay competitive.

Angels are setting themselves up for a '10's Yankees type run at a WS. Gonna have to build through FA likely to get players that put them over the top as farm is now barren and they still have holes at 2B, 3B, bullpen, C and in their rotation... my lord.

Good or bad (depending on your opinion of it) that probably means it sticks around for the new CBA.

Personally, I like it, any way the wealthy teams can get extra draft picks (by making QOs to players that smaller market teams may not (Anderson, Estrada etc) for fear they may take it) is fine by me.
