Irish. This goes back a few years at ESPN. Classic stuff with the Tin Man. I went like this. "He has ace stuff" Quite a few loved the guy and talked of how he could be an ace like the second coming of Drysdale or Koufax so the "Sandy Bills" joke started. Then it kept evolving: He's a solid #2 with ace stuff He's a solid #3 He's a solid #4 Now he will be a solid #5. The Tin man has continuously fallen into the category of average or worse since that 16 win season. The guy has no heart. He had a penchant for getting a big lead and folding in the 5th or sixth because he never had the heart to fight through it. It was always a question as to when he would fold in the game. The 5th or the 6th because he rarely made it into the 7th. He basically drove some of us crazy. Codge loves the guy so that's part of it. CarolinaBlueDodger (Chad Billingsley's Dad) It's been a fun and ongoing thing for a long time. Now we can carry it over to here when the Tin Man/One Armed Man returns. I look forward to bashing him again. I want every Dodger to do well. It doesn't mean I have to like the fucking guys. Especially the guys with no heart or "mental midgets" like the Chinchilla.
not a fan of chad either but stop well short of looking forward to bashing him. although unless someone has sown a nut sack on him during the last surgery i expect more of the same. can he just skip the 5th inning maybe?
Hey Zeus, Koufax. How can you twist shit up like balloon animals all the time? NO ONE said he would be an ace like Koufax or Drysdale. What WAS said was he had the POTENTIAL and the STUFF to be an ace. The only comparison I remember ever being made to Koufax was one that I made when I said Koufax struggled early in his career and that Bills was actually better in his 21-24 age years than Koufax was. Somehow you spin that into 'an ace like Koufax'. If I remember correctly I said Koufax didn't become an elite pitcher till later in his career, as with many starters. The real truth here is that Koufax is the quintessential "what have you done for me lately" fan. As soon as a player starts to slump or has more than one injury Koufax is on them like white on rice. Like Kemp running into a wall makes him soft like a chinchilla.
apparently cheaters do prosper but $52MM and 4 years?... Cardinals To Sign Jhonny PeraltaBy Zach Links [November 24 at 12:16pm CST]The Cardinals have reached agreement with Jhonny Peralta on a deal, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (via Twitter). It'll be a four-year contract worth a little more than $52MM, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter).Peralta, 31, is coming off a solid .303/.358/.457 season but his value took a hit thanks to his 50-game suspension for involvement with the Biogenesis PED scandal. For the Cardinals, Peralta represents a very significant offensive upgrade over shortstop Pete Kozma, even if he looks more like his 2012 self (.239/.305/.384) than '13.A report late last week indicated that Peralta was seeking a four-year pact in the $56-75MM range. Meanwhile, three GMs told Peter Gammons that Peralta's reps were hinting to teams that they had a four-year, $52MM offer in hand. This weekend, that team has been told that they're "not even in [the] game," according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (via Twitter). For his career, Peralta owns a .268/.330/.425 slash line over eleven seasons with the Indians and Tigers. The veteran's -0.4 career UZR/150 isn't terribly impressive, but the metric shows that he has been playing much better defense at the shortstop position over the last three seasons.Peralta is represented by SFX, according to the MLBTR Agency Database. __
gotta give props to brad ziegler for speaking his find... A whole lot of hypocrisy going on that is for damn sure among all of the owners. Even more surprising it that it's the Cardinals who espouse mid western values of hard work and doing things the right way.
The scummy Cards show us all that they, too, can be the biggest phony bastards of all time when it comes to signing a player. I puke on them and I wish the team the worst of all possible fortunes, these holier-than-thou shit lickers. Fuck them forever.
Haren to Dodgers, 1 year 10 mil deal with an option that vests at 180 innings according to Rosenthal. This paired with Tanaka would be awesome...
Careful. Codge will throw his Ensure at you. I hope the Tin Man comes back strong but I doubt the heartless one will. He can sign with the Angels when he becomes a FA.
one of the (supposed) tanaka competitors apparently out... Beltran Currently Yankees' Top PriorityBy Steve Adams [November 25 at 10:40am CST]With Brian McCann on board for at least the next five years, the Yankees have set their sights on Carlos Beltran, making him their No. 1 free agent priority at this point, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. Likewise, the Yankees are Beltran's preferred free agent destination, sources tell Feinsand. Their pursuit of Beltran is being prioritized as Robinson Cano gauges the market, Hiroki Kuroda weighs his future and Masahiro Tanaka remains in limbo with the new posting system still not finalized. The hold-up between the two sides is that Beltran and his representatives at MVP Sports Group are currently seeking a three-year deal, and the Yankees would prefer to sign him for two years, writes Feinsand. The addition of a third year isn't a deal-breaker for the Yankees, he adds, noting that other teams such as the Royals, Mariners, Red Sox and Rangers have been in touch with Beltran's camp. The Orioles are also known to have interest in Beltran. The Yankees have already sacrificed their first-round pick to sign McCann, which could make them more willing to part with their second pick in order to add another free agent that turned down a qualifying offer, such as Beltran. The Yankees could receive a new first-round pick, should Curtis Granderson sign elsewhere. They also had three first-round selections in 2013, picking up third baseman Eric Jagielo, center fielder Aaron Judge and left-hander Ian Clarkin.According to Feinsand, the Yankees believe that even with McCann on the books, they can afford to retain Cano and sign Beltran while staying under the luxury tax threshold. The Yankees currently have offers on the table to three or four free agents, an official told Feinsand. __
somewhat interesting thought from molly knight/espn... Molly Knight @molly_knight 20mShould Dodgers make a run at Cano by offering fewer years and high AAV with an opt-out? 4 years/$100MM? 4 years $120MM? Not the worst idea..10:29 AM - 25 Nov 13 · Details__
I don't know how the Yankees could afford McCann, Cano, Beltran (or Choo), a $15M+ SP (Kuroda, Jiminez, Santana etc) and take a run at Tanaka. I know the posting fee doesn't count, but Tanaka figures to get around $70M over 5-6 years.
