bored stole the idea from mlbtraderumors.com and you can choose more than one player... Which Players Will Be Extended Before Free Agency?By Tim Dierkes [August 7 at 7:34am CST]Five days after the World Series ends, free agents will be free to sign with any team. Our current list is here, but often a few key names are plucked off the market early by signing an extension or new contract with their team. For example, in October 2011, the Yankees were able to negotiate an extension with C.C. Sabathia prior to him opting out and reaching the open market. Such deals could even happen now, like when the Astros added two years for Brett Myers in August 2010. Below we've identified six players teams may want to retain before they hit the open market. Let us know which will get a deal done! You can choose multiple players. __
I honestly don't know if any of these guys get signed before FA. I think Pence has the best shot though, then Utley. I think Cano gets out there because he's the premier FA, he's going to try to get bank on the open market. The Braves seem cool with letting McCann test FA because they have Gattis. Ervin is having a career year, so he'll likely be seeking more then what the Royals are willing to offer. Morales I suppose has a shot, but I don't think the Mariners are in a rush to sign a guy like Morales to an extension. The Phillies were apparently trying to extend Utley, but things seemed to have cooled for some reason. I don't think it makes sense for Utley long term to stay in Philly, but he apparently loves playing there and I think Amaro would gladly overpay to keep him in Philly.
think they meant 2014 free agents but yeah, still wouldn't mind locking him up sooner rather than later
you either have an inside source or you're a prophet... Phillies, Chase Utley Agree To ExtensionBy Zach Links [August 7 at 6:28pm CST]The Phillies and second baseman Chase Utley have reached agreement on a contract extension, according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com (on Twitter). The two sides are close on a two-year deal that would be worth between $20-$25MM guaranteed with multiple vesting options, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. It seems that the vesting options are tied to the time that Utley spends on the field as the deal can potentially take him beyond 2015 if he stays healthy, according to Rosenthal. Due to a variety of knee problems and right thumb surgery in 2010, Utley has averaged only 100 games in the three seasons prior to 2013.A fresh multi-year deal for the Phillies and the 34-year-old seemed unlikely just a few months ago as he suffered yet another setback with a strained oblique that kept him sidelined to start the season. He's bounced back well, however, and has appeared in 84 of the club's 113 games.Utley is represented by the Wasserman Media Group, the same agency that previously ironed out a seven-year, $85MM deal for the second baseman. _
I think mccann is the only other guy who MIGHT sign before FA.they talked parameters in ST but the braves wanted to make sure he was healthy and could get his bat back on track, both look like check marks to me
I was debating santana myself but I think if the royals re-sign him it'll be in FA and they'll overpay by about $5M just like last year
