Ahh to look back at ST and see how many here said he was going to be one of our most consistent and solid hitters. Peace the fuck out.
What a waste of talent. Dee Gordon is more than capable of playing SS. He has the arm and range. He doesn't have the brain. Well, you need a brain to play 2B too. If he ain't gonna be a SS...then maybe he needs to be traded right fucking now. I get the feeling he may be training to be a Punto/Hairston type. A fulltime backup/bench player. Maybe the best use for him since he will never be good enough or durable enough to hold a fulltime position down.
I'd be fine with that...the only issue is that we have 3 above average OFers and a beast in the waiting.
I was just talking in general for any team his only shot is at CF. He won't play for us again baring tons of injuries. I think they made that clear sticking with Cruz and Sellers.
No. But what probably is sustainable is Nick Punto's career .330 OBP, which is more than can be said about Dee, who'd be luck to be at .300. Not to mention Punto can play 2B well and Dee has made 7 errors in less than a month so far this season. It may have been, I was never very high on him but that's neither here nor there. We saw what he could do, and it's not pretty. I'm not saying he can't eventually become something, but rather that he's not going to come up now and be a difference maker. Especially at 2B.
Any position changes for Dee should be done with his trade value in mind. Even the best-case-scenario Dee Gordon is not someone who should be playing for the highest payroll team in MLB.
I just wish he could play one side of the ball decent. If he could play decent defense, he'd be up and we'd see what he does on offense. If he had a decent stick, we could live with the D
I think most of us were on the fence whether he would come back this season with the same game or not - and long before ST. So, I'm not completely shocked he tanked - sad, but not shocked. We could have used last year's Cruuz. The big news now is what will Ned do? Is he happy with the bench guys always rotating into the infield? Or will he go out and try to get starter type player? When and where? Critical questions...
I was horrified at his play last season. I thought they should have dumped his ass immediately - but he kept starting. Son Of Flash, given all the breaks, beyond all reason and sanity. I figured he had become the coach's pet. (Lasorda used to be like that. Russell played SS several years past his due, and then went on to became manager.) There would be no getting rid of Dee - have to wait for natural causes to catch up to him. Amazed when they sent him down, finally. But he's still in the system and that makes me nervous. They didn't send him to Seattle. They could cut Sellers at anytime and call him back up. And he could be managing in ten or fifteen years.
