I think how he played last year warranted another shot this year. No one expected him to bat .350, but I don't think anyone thought he would be tanking this bad.
I think there is a relation between Dee and that we were scoring a shit load of runs early last year. The script was simple: Dee got on base (yes, most times the only time he got on base all game long), stole second, took third on Ellis' grounder, scored on something from Kemp. I get that Punto might have a .330 obp, but he puts no pressure on pitchers. Dee can turn a walk into a triple, and that has value. Im not a big Dee fan at all, but with Ellis contract due this year and no other good 2B in our system, other than signing Cano, I think this is a decent way to go.
^dee has issues on defense couldn't even get the ball to 1st base late last year and as vrp alluded, he already has 7 errors... in 24 games for a middle infielder that's huge to put his current .944 fielding percentage in context -- of all the current mlb shortstops, the lowest is .947 http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/position/ss/order/true
And with out issues with the pitching staff, we can't afford to have guys like Beckett/Lilly/Cap have runners on to give up two-run homeruns. Only solo shots plz.
Yeah this is so true... without a porous defense behind them! Like stated above... Fierce D and a weak stick and he stays Fierce stick and weak D and he stays Weak stick and weak D? Well no amount of basepath speed is gonna make up for those other deficiencies.
The problem is his bat. Oh, and his fielding, too...so....that doesn't leave too much else to bank on for this blade runner , does it? If you can't hit or field (throw), then WTF good is he? Pretty much the whole ball of wax, hitting and fielding, I think. Let's get a move on here- get him the fuck out of the system to somewhere else for, uh...another catcher maybe (can't have too many catchers), and watch tis guy develope in a better minor league system (remember, he's not a pitcher) and be a star on another team. Get a move on, Ned.... Or hang out with Trayvon Robinson.
^... therein lies the rub... No stick and no D makes Dee a track athlete in the wrong sport... he has no business in the MLB
^^^^^^ A new one, created by LAD position player potential... "no stick and no D make Dee a dull boy" (insert any name applicable) OR... "No no.1 and meatballs down Broadway make Josh a dull boy"
and yet another.... "Underachieving and a team full has beens make Ned a jerkoff scumbag". OR/AND: "Ned Colletti's idea of a good bench is a repainted one in the park". See: SF Giants: While Ned GM= nothing, nada, zip After Ned= two World Championships (TWO) Ned's long, arduous, boring tenure with the LAD = less than zero Is there a pattern here, I wonder?
but he's fast...yet has no ability to utilize it apparently. stole 32 but caught 10. and no chance at bunting or at least hitting it hard into the dirt and beating out a ball. you really can't even say he's one dimensional. dee is no dimensional.
in a prefect world... dee finally plays up to his immense potential, both offensively and at ss hanley comes back sooner than expected and plays like the hanley of old sellers and cruz become viable and valuable options off the bench... ah, who the fuck am i kidding?!!! __
