not that its an excuse but he's likely just a macho drunk
if that was in public of course there's going to be video
basically a Mexican kid that could throw a ball w an eye problem was about to get the payday of a lifetime and he crumbled
add to the fact he's probably in over his head w his wife and hanging out drinking w buddies at a soccer match (if true and i am just guessing)
other people are heckling him and his girl or whatever and the steam starts to build
in a haze she's trying to help him but he's too far gone and she says that one thing that flips him the fuck out
soccer games are brutal if you've never been to one and no idea why he'd want to do that in the first place
again not making any excuse for hitting his girl but even though its unbelievably absurdly stupid i'm going to stop short of saying he should have his dick cut off
no one walked in his shoes but him and he can live w the consequences of his actions alone
i don't think he's an especially intelligent man or he probably could utter a few words of English by now
have no idea what his family life was like but wouldn't be surprised if he saw his mom smacked and that awful imprint is ingrained
we all have that tape of our past we go back to in times of insane turmoil and many times it involves violence
not me personally but i never saw women hit and the thought doesn't cross my mind ever, even in my worst moments, and if it did i didn't act out
maybe he should never pitch again but i genuinely feel sorry for his family and the situation
all his life led him to this moment and he fucked it up in the most public and humiliating way damn

looks like he was at BMO for sure

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was arrested near BMO Stadium, where Lionel Messi was playing in a Major League Soccer game with numerous celebrities in attendance.

Exposition Park public safety said its officers arrested Urías at about 11 p.m. on Sunday inside the park, which is home to the stadium. The department would not immediately disclose what charges Urías was arrested on, but said it would release more details Monday.

Setting aside the bigger life issues here, and speaking just baseball for a moment...

This really sucks for us. Despite his up and down performance all season, I still had faith that the old Julio would show up in the playoffs. After all, he has shown that he has ice in his veins when the temperature turns up in October. Now we go into the playoffs without our most proven and most consistent postseason starter.

That said, unlike the Bauer issue, at least this one isn't going to hurt us for multiple years. If it was going to happen, glad it happened near the end of his contract. In fact, the people it hurts the most are Julio and his family, Boras, and whatever team was most likely to sign him (I was hearing the Cubs were planning a big push). On second thought, the Cubs and any other interested teams are probably breathing a sigh of relief right about now.

don't think it sucks for the team tbh
his demons are real and he's gone and was gone already anyway
to have two guys who were bound to unravel in the playoffs suddenly on the sideline in wholio and Gonzo is two games we have a better chance imo
look how long it took the Dodgers to take the leash off urias and now they don't have a choice unless Lynn is suddenly considered a 2 and Yarbourough a 3
from the standpoint of the rest of the year sure the timing could have been better but maybe its just perfect
i know its no time to panic and give these kids some confidence instead of fear

No time to panic, that's correct. And I like what I'm seeing from Miller and Pepiot. But we're going into unexplored territory with them. How will they perform under pressure? Will they hit their wall never having pitched so many innings before (particularly Miller)? Can they stay healthy for 2 more months? You say Julio was bound to unravel and certainly have reason to feel that way, but I just think there are too many questions with the youngsters to feel confidence in October. But since we don't have many other options, they're going to need to step up. Lynn really worries me against the elite offenses. Just praying Kershaw will be healthy and at his best once the playoffs begin.

Well, whatever his problems are, and whatever punishment comes his way, and however much he let his teammates down, he'll always be the guy who was on the mound when the Dodgers won their first WS in over 3 decades.
That's what I'll try to always remember him as, and at least no one will ever be able to take that away, even as his career disintegrates before all of us.
After the initial shock, it's profoundly sad.

    • DPS assistant chief Chris Carr told ESPN's Paula Lavigne that a civilian captured [the Urias incident] on a cell phone, and that video is now in the possession of law enforcement.
