Agreed. He would have been a fantastic addition, but whoever wrote the LATimes article I glimpsed at is right, that contract is bloated
Dilbeck's LAT blog agrees - price way too steep: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dod...e-in-on-this-bloated-prince-fielder-deal.html
The most homeruns hit at Comerica Park by a lefthanded hitter is 14. Did they do their research or they just did this deal as a money grab.
How can you possibly know that now? A lot of teams can fall flat on their face and want to move guys.
I have to say when I saw the news, I was upset. I saw the pricetag and was actually glad we walked away (if we were sniffing at all). Given our options, I think next year is when we shine. I think we get slightly above .500 this year but come FA (and the deadline), I think we look like monsters. I see us picking up one or two premium pitchers and at least two bats. I think that if Loney is not showing he is even worth the money, he is dumped and Ethier is extended and moved to 1st. This frees us up to move Sands and pick up another bat (Hamilton, et al.) for the OF.
shit load for a DH miggy and him cant both be DH at the same time the next 9 years go get em Detroit Joey Votto is where it's at guys
THIS. I think we all know that until new ownership and a new GM is in town, we won't be big players. though i still say we trade for david wright if he plays the way he has over the years. a dependable third baseman would be tits.
The only thing that sucks about this is that the free agent class for first basemen next year is awful. So unless the Reds deal us Votto at the trade deadline, we probably won't be getting a big first basemen.
When is Votto a FA? And I doubt they trade him; they look like the only team that can contest the Tardinals. Then again, you never know. Edit: He is signed through 2013 at a reasonable price.
It's definitely possible. I just can't see it though. Hard to imagine Dre at first; but hasn't this idea been suggested before by management? Hard to see him resigning with us after we basically did nothing this offseason.
Not a reason to spend $200 million on an overweight guy who plays the easiest defensive position in baseball.
I think everyone has come to an easy agreement that Prince for 214 M and 9 years is beyond stupid; American League, National League, Mexican League, whatever. Just dumb. Still disappointed Boras got him that dough and we didn't land him.
