So, am I correct in assuming that they went to this veteran, experienced pitcher and said to him, in effect, "we want you to come to ST with us...if you suck, you'll not make the squad...and if you are good, you'll still not make the squad". And he goes for it? Is that about what you're saying here? The guy may have sucked, but what asshole does that with a team? and depth... where? On the spring roster, when they have a dozen other guys chomping at the bit they could look at instead ? And you can't fill out depth or be a "last resort" if you're not even anywhere in the system can you? I don't think so.
Simers is a classic contrarian and genuine jerk so of course he would shit on this idea but he can write all he wants it is his right just as it is mine to not read him.

sometimes he's funny (when he's ripping someone like mccourt) but most of the time he's annoying think about it... when was the last time he wrote an article complimenting or praising someone? talk about a one-trick pony
When he had that failed radio stint with his daughter he kept dissing her on a daily basis. The world needs jerk though so the people with common sense can hate on them.
I truly think he gets it. I have always said that you grow a team internally and add KEY pieces during FA (and with trades). Ned and McCourt have done the opposite. Given his comments about starting pitching, I could see Bills being traded for a bat unless he picks it up big time and Hamels being a Dodger easily. It sounds strange but once RDL gets back, we will have excess pitching. When the right time comes, we need to spin it for legit hitters where we are lacking.

I relish a new attitude @ GM. Imagine a young player who is ripping up AAA not getting log jammed by some 37 yr old veteran hitting .225 with 2 or 3 more years to go on a multi-million dollar contract. Yeah, I wouldn't be afraid to trade anyone on the big team ( except the K's) to build up the system. And I say no more players in their late thirties - PLEASE.
awesome stuff blf like him not blaming rihanna or anyone else for 2010, "i sucked." and props to his grandma for calling him out seems very grounded for a superstar
