Well, if Clayton doesn't choke and the offense can score some runs against the whitest Hispanic 'Derek' Rodriguez, I'm sure everyone will be watching that Rockies game with great interest. Tied for 1st place with 1 game to play would be pretty sweet.

I like to talk a lot of crap on MLB leadership, but baseball certainly has the best playoff system and with the addition of these two wild cards, it has kept a lot of teams playing meaningful games in September, without overdoing it like basketball or hockey. These are legit teams fighting for playoff spots and potentially playing multiple do-or-die games which the regular season and playoff series lack.

Is there a tie-breaker in play, like head-to-head record or something like that, or do they play another game?

If the Dodgers and Rockies finish with the same record, they would play a tie breaker game 163. HFA to the leader in the season series. So it would be on Monday, 1:07 PM at Dodger Stadium.

1 pm start is such bullshit and is only happening cause the game is on ESPN on same day as Monday night football.

Game should be at 4 at the earliest.

He's horrible, and I used to like him at first. It's like he's so paranoid about getting the call wrong that he sits there in near silence until well after the ball goes out and tries to make up for it when he yells, "Home run" with faux-enthusiasm. Rick Monday has more life FFS!
    Awesome for me, since we're headed to a wedding at 5! :D :D :D

    Thanks for the heads up.

Sounds weird to say, but I’d actually like Ryu to start that game instead of CK. Ryu seems to pitching well lately, and he can actually bat a little.

And believe it or not, my second choice would be Beuhler with Hill third.

CK is not clutch. Game 1 of a 7 game series, okay. One game win it all, nope.

If it goes to a game 163, our options are probably Rich Hill or a bullpen game started by Ross Stripling which would be a disaster in my opinion. Ryu won't pitch on 2 days rest. He has been nails though, especially at home.

If the Rockies win tomorrow, I can see the Dodgers saving Bueller for the wild card game on Tuesday.

Unpopular opinion: If the other WC spot gets locked up today, regardless of what happens with the Rockies, Buehler needs to be held back.

So I'd have to follow the game by phone at work if we tie the Rockies?

    Sounds like hell.

I don't run the risk of having Hill or Stripling having to start a must-win game on tuesday (yes, i'm saying I would hold Buehler out of a playoff game for the division as well), and yes that would be the situation, as Ryu would only be on the 3 days.

If they controlled their own destiny, i'd probably feel different, but needing a Rockies loss on sunday is the deal-breaker.

I expect "vintage Clayton" today -- facing an absolutely awful lineup in a pitcher's park + the game is important but the stage is pretty small. He'll save his true self for an elimination game or two in the post.

I get what you wrote, but they did control their destiny and were in the catbird seat as recently as last week.
They let it slip away, like shit through a goose.
No one to blame but the LAD for that.
Say what you want about teams rolling over, blah, blah, but the Rox have won 8 in a row to knock us out, and that's playing hardball when they had to.
And before the Coors field bullshit comes up, its Coors Field for the opponents, too.
I hate them, like everyone else here, but it is what it is.
Now, barring a small miracle, our shot is the WC...and we need to win one of the next two.
Guess we'll find out how bad we wanted it by Sunday evening.
    Go Blue.

Anyone disappointed that we made sure that Madison (isn't that a trendy girl's name?) locked up his second consecutive losing record?

    Didn't think so.

Was I the only one expecting the worst when the great Kelby Tomlinson came up with the bases loaded? Prime time for Giant scrub to break our hearts.

Nice turn (one of several) by Manny and Dozier.

That arm on Machado. He may have an iffy knee or two, but his arm is golden. I don't know how you let that arm walk out the door with so much uncertainty surrounding Seager's arm.
