totally down problem is, no one outside of LA knows he exists and while he leads all NL catchers in walks and OBP fans (i.e. voters) are going to pay more attention to the more glamorous stats; HR, RBI, et al...
Fact: AJ Ellis has the 4th highest OPS amongst all ML catchers only behind, Matt Wieters, Carlos Ruiz, and Yadier Molina. I used to be a huge hater of Ellis, or just not one of his staunchest supporters, but he's starting to make me believe a bit.
I say we start right now. Let's get some official posters going and get this thing viral. I'm AFK'd for the weekend but will do my part next week. Everyone needs to do their part on facebook, tweet, woof... whatever. Go to the Yankee forums and offer Jeter votes in exchange for AJ votes. How about a Yadier Molina smear campaign?
AJ's best chance comes from the players and managers voting, and even then its a long shot. Posey, McCann, Molina and even the POS of Ruiz have both more exposure and experience. We would need to tear the cover of the ball for another month to be taken into consideration.
I think 4ev is right AJ leads in BB's and OBP, but voters have a tendency to lean toward the more romantic stats AJ may be 2nd in avg, but without the XBH (he's ahead of only Montero and Hundley) -- especially HR/RBI -- he still has to be considered a longshot. We all may know his value, but most voters east of Colorado are already asleep by the time we play. And when they watch the replays on ESPN, they're going to be showing the big plays -- not walks or hitting the ball to the right side to advance a runner.
AJ Ellis is pushing for his thread to be merged with the "First PLace" thread because they are almost the same thing. ELLIS!

after tonight's game, AJ's Dad stopped by to watch game highlights with his son when Dad saw AJ's massive homerun, he exclaimed "God, you crushed that!" to which AJ replied, "Dad, when it's just us, you can call me AJ"
