    0-for-7 in his last 7 ab’s with 7 k’s
when is it no longer too early to consider this a problem?

Do not let Cody stink it up other than in the 9 spot and we'll be just fine. If he figures it out (doesn't seem likely) great, we get a massive boost to the team that nobody is counting on. If he doesn't, let his ass go for the good of himself. Cody seems like an absolute mental midget, perhaps a new start on a perennial loser with zero expectations or fans can help him earn a few more dollars.

I think the smart pitchers (and most are smart at this level) knows every hole in Cody’s swing, and Cody is either unwilling or unable (which is the more probable situation) to adjust.

His power came from a rather unorthodox golf type swing that requires a weird windup, and he just can’t get that to work on some well placed pitches that are inside. He can’t lay off those pitches either.

He needs an extended stay in the minors. But that won’t happen until a month or so in the lineup, hopefully way down in the batting order. Thankfully, with the DH, he won’t do that much damage being two bad at bats in the lineup. He maybe the only hole.

I’d tell every minor league pitcher to pitch him inside until he gets it.

he should be sent down, benched, or at the very least platooned
but we already know what’s going to happen…
roberts will keep putting him out there, and teams will pitch around everyone else in our lineup to get to him
at this point, a platoon of pillar/mckinstry >>> cody

I can't find myself being as harsh as others, which ultimately means zero, but as it has progressed to this alarming point, the pressure of being put relentlessly in the most supposedly productive spots in the lineup, is just another glaring error in Roberts' way of handling this.
Amazing how he doesn't see this, and only incessantly adds pressure to a kid who is with nary a clue. He has not let it effect his CF play, much to his credit, and could be used at the very bottom of the lineup until he finds it.
If he ever does. No one plays CF like him either..
The whole situation is pitiful, and the specter of the way it's being dealt with by the manager is fucking tragically and outright stupid.

Shouldn’t the stat monkeys in the FO order him to send him down the lineup or to the minor leagues.

If Roberts is the empty vessel, the FO should fill it ASAP.

I agree with that statement...no doubt.
But the FO has filled that empty vessel...with MONEY and a reward of a 3 year extension.
It's like " Let loose the Kraaken"!
But instead, they're smokin' it, I think...
    Mystifying.
    Utterly mystifying

i don't want to give up on him yet but its close
i agree on the minors but im not thinking that's going to happen
if he can't find it half way through the year i think a decision has to be made
i mean he should at least be making contact against minor league fringe pitchers
that's very concerning to say the least
maybe a shrink idk but he's such a great athlete fuck

I really thought Cody turned a corner in the playoffs and was primed to have a bounce back year but he looks as lost as ever.

And it'd be one thing if he's just guessing and missing pitches way outside the zone but the guy is late as hell on fastballs down the middle of the plate. Definitely concerning.

I struggle to be quick to give up on him but I know we can't keep penciling a guy in the lineup that can't hit his weight. Cody's speed and amazing skills on defense make me want to be patient but I am sure that patience will run out if he's going 0-4 with 3 Ks game after game.

Hard to believe this guy was our most clutch hitter in the playoffs.

I don't know what i can add that hasn't already been said. Great defensive player - I'll give him that much. But whatever hope he gave me in last year's playoffs is gone. He just seems so done. Sad really, considering that his MVP season wasn't that long ago. I know I shouldn't be putting much weight on what happens in the preseason, but if he starts the regular season like this, we need to move on. Can't have a whole 'nother full season of wondering if he'll hit .150 or get on a hot streak and end at .170.

    Well written.
Damning him with feint praise...justified, I agree.
It boils down to, although I sincerely hope not, to " it's not personal, Sonny, it's just business" ultimately.
A feared slugger turns into an auto-out.
And not even in the Shawn Green fashion, with endless bounce outs to the right side...
He hardly ever even touches the ball anymore.

that’s nine K’s in his last nine at bats, and 17 K’s in 24 spring at bats
    this IS a problem

he's missing balls by a foot
ffs send him somewhere safe to work it out for a minute
imo he needs a sports psychologist or a reach around

I blame the girlfriend. Either he’s getting too much, or she’s blue-balling him.

She's knocked up. So he (or someone else) hit it at least once.
