S.O.P. On the plus side he's a won a world series and he's been to the playoffs numerous times, the Dodgers do lack experience in big games on the roster.
I am okay with this signing. He seems to show up in the thick of things more often than not. It was not all that long ago that I wanted him to get a contract with the Dodgers. I am not sure what has happened to his OBP but he used to get on base via a walk pretty often from what I remember. What is pissing me off is that we keep going after aging veterans at little salaries when we could probably package a few prospects and get someone like Quinton to man left. Very frustrating.
If this board hadn't blown up there would be numerous like posts about Jamie Carroll to reference from when we signed him... Just sayin'
He did have a 700 ops in the first half before totally collapsing along with the rest of the Mariners :idk:
i wish it wasnt a major league deal, but whatever and it's not like we couldnt survive without Miles. meh
Carroll and Miles sucked pryor to their Dodger's tenure. Hopefully Ellis and Kennedy can follow the trend?
Agreed and that is part of my problem with how Ned does things. We keep reinventing the damn wheel every year. We sign declining players to one and possibly two year contracts. If they bomb we let them go(good) if they succeed and deserve a raise we let them go and try again. We have no stability and little long term roster prediction. I know I sound like a broken record but we had a large number of free agents this year and are on a path to possibly have a large number next year. How about a guy in their 20's signed to a 3-5 year deal? Carroll and Miles both performed above expectations and do we have them again no we are reinventing the hope and wish signing. 2013 is right now a little bit better as Ellis and Rivera have two year pacts. If we retain Dre and Loney we are heading in the right direction. However right now 2014 is real interesting. The only old contract we will still be paying on Is Andru Jones. However we will have some high salary players. Kemp- 21 million Kershaw- 20 million Bills- 12 million If Eithier and Loney have good years they will have required chunks of money to retain them. That could be a very good core at a price. The good thing is that if the youngsters develop as hoped and expected they will be affordable and fill things in requiring only some fine tuning and hopefully we will have a good owner who can afford the right fill ins. Bring in the right bat and who ever the new GM is will have a winner and while Ned would finally be looking good for having laid the groundwork I doubt we will give him credit. This positive scenario is based on a new owner as I suspect if Frank was still running the team payroll would have been slashed someway.
meh... Source: Dodgers close in on Kennedy Ken Rosenthal Updated Nov 30, 2011 2:53 AM ET The Dodgers, continuing their early offseason activity, were closing in on a one-year, major-league contract Tuesday with free-agent infielder Adam Kennedy, according to a major-league source. Kennedy, 35, is a left-handed hitter who likely will contribute at second and third base. He batted .234/.277/.355 in 114 games with the Mariners last season. The Dodgers already have signed three free agents — outfielder Juan Rivera, second baseman Mark Ellis and catcher Matt Treanor. They also have awarded center fielder Matt Kemp an eight-year, $160 million contract. For Kennedy, the deal will amount to something of a homecoming. He was born in Riverside, Calif., attended Cal State Northridge and played for the Angels from 2000 to '06.
TBrownYahoo Tim Brown Assuming Adam Kennedy passes physical, his Dodger contract will be worth about $800,000.800 K, pretty meh
Dodgers Reach Agreement With Adam Kennedy By Tim Dierkes [November 30 at 12:12pm CST] The Dodgers have, "for all practical purposes," reached an agreement with infielder Adam Kennedy, tweets Yahoo's Tim Brown. Brown says the one-year deal will be worth about $800K, once Kennedy passes his physical. MLBTR's Ben Nicholson-Smith first reported Kennedy's discussions with the Dodgers yesterday, with Tony Jackson and Ken Rosenthal adding details. Kennedy played first, second and third base for the Mariners in 2011, posting a .234/.277/.355 line with 23 doubles in 409 plate appearances. Kennedy signed one-year deals in the $1MM range in each of the past two offseasons. The Mariners signed him to a minor league deal worth $750K plus incentives last offseason. TWC Sports represents Kennedy, a 13-year MLB veteran. As MLBTR's free agent tracker shows, Dodgers GM Ned Colletti has committed about $15MM so far this offseason to free agents Mark Ellis, Juan Rivera, Matt Treanor, and Kennedy. Ben Nicholson-Smith contributed to this post.
i'm sure there was furious competition to sign this guy. you know i think we take ned for granted sometimes.
