What makes this team so special thus far is that whether they are behind, ahead, or things are close, or seemingly out of hand, it's just not over until it's over. In the past, a one run deficit in the fifth....we'd say game over. Not anymore. Or if we had a 1 run lead in the 6th, we'd be like we need 4 more runs to be safe. Not anymore. We got the SP now with CK, Darvish, Wood, Hill, and even Ryu and Maeda are showing life. We got McCarthy just in case, and a BP that is one of the best in MLB. We couldn't hit LHP all last season. Now we're 5th best in the league. We just have to push past the whims of a short 5 and 7 game series. We have the tools. We just a little.....just a smidgen of magic.
Well umm yes, if you have the ball, you can in fact block the plate. I feel like a lot of people don't know this. Sure shit like that shouldn't be allowed, but it is
Positive news on Wood, Grandal. http://m.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/246890620/yasmani-grandal-alex-wood-receive-good-news/
he's been good defensively but it's not even arguable how big a disappointment he's been that said, he's has some better at bats lately hopefully he's heating up
I know they're allowed to block the plate with the ball. It's the fact that there's no consequence anymore like there was when you could run the catcher over. In any case, it is BS. Because they can catch a ball above their head and keep the runner from tagging the bag by kicking their leg out. This was fine before the Posey rule, but doesn't make sense anymore. Shouldn't be allowed at the plate or the bases. A runner should be unobstructed other than by the glove/ball.
couldn't watch the game live but i just got done watching it via dvr not really much i can add except... holy shit what a team!!!
I think the issue I had with the play was that the catcher was in front of the bag, and then he didn't move to block the plate. I thought instead he stuck his leg out, almost like he was trying to trip him. But I'm not sure he actually had the ball when he tried to trip Barnes. It was close. I don't know....this Posey rule and the rule they made because of the Utley slide is bogus.
the made the rules for the wrong reasons in both cases the defensive player was in poor position that's not the runner's fault
On top of the fact that the runner cannot change his path to run into the catcher, but the catcher can move all he wants into the runner if he has the ball? That doesnt make sense.
