Scherzer starting tomorrow, yes cool of him.

But really, I'd expect that. It's fine to sit if there are no playoff implications. But in my opinion, as a professional ball player, it's your obligation to play your best for the whole season, despite your team's standing, to protect the integrity of the game. He's a National, but he's also a Major Leaguer. How unbalanced would it be if Bumgarner skips a start just to try to play the spoiler role vs LAD, but Scherzer passes on an opportunity for the same role against COL?

This. I can live with starting him a game #163 on monday, but really he should be saved for tuesday, if needed.

Rockies facing a guy with a career (75 innings) ERA over 6. Best case scenario game 163. Unreal

We’re both in the playoffs so the game no longer matters.

They were both already in the playoffs before their game started. Fact of the matter is they never planned on starting Scherzer.

    Makes no sense.
Both clinched a spot before their game ended today
    Weak excuse
Just as I was giving MLB credit for exciting, meaningful baseball in September they allow shit like this to occur

Now there’s a big part of me thinking you go with Buehler tomorrow. Idk. It’s hard.

But a win tomorrow means that, at a minimum, we have 2 shots to enter the division series. A loss tomorrow runs the risk of putting your all eggs in an away game wild card game. Win tomorrow and best case is we win the division and worst case is we play for the division Monday. Idk. I’m kinda thinking a win tomorrow makes everything way easier so you go with Buehler. You can use expanded rosters for a game 163 so we can make it a bullpenish game

    torn
if sunday posed a possible elimination, go with your best
but since we’re guaranteed to play after tomorrow regardless, i think you throw hill and hope for the best
that said, there’s a part of me that says fuck it and throw your best at them tomorrow
idk could make an argument either way

This is pretty fucked of Scherzer and/or the Nats, for the reasons I stated earlier. So what that we're both in the playoffs? Huge difference between being in as a division winner vs having to win a single-elimination WC game. Rockies avoided Ray when he was on fire and was the DBack's best pitcher. Then they avoided Nola for 4 vs the Phillies, and downright embarrassed their other 4 starters. Now they get to play the Nationals without Scherzer, in a game that would otherwise be Max's to start. His not playing is cowardly at best. Is he worried his CY credentials will be in jeopardy at Coors? It's their obligation to put their best team out there, even if it's game #162 and they're eliminated.

Also, I'm not an I-told-you-so kind of guy, but when Roberts threw in the towel in the extra-inning game vs Philly, I had a feeling it would come back to haunt us. How big is that loss now?

In my opinion, trying to get to the NLDS instead of having to win a 1 game WC is worth it for this team.

I have no faith that this team can get through a 1 game WC, but if we are in a series, a game 1 loss isn't a death sentence. You have other games to play.

I think for this years team, winning the NL West maybe more important than ever.

Yeah, I thought it was a BS response by Martinez as well.

If we win the division we don't have to worry about a 1 game crapshoot and we would have 3 days off. Throw Buehler and hope the Nats help us. If we have to play a tie breaker, I think Hill and the bullpen at home can easily match what Colorado would throw at us.

If you don't throw Buehler today, you're basically surrendering the division which is weak

I get wanting to throw Buehler, but at the same time, Rich Hill has been a big game starter for us over the past two seasons and I could see him having a great start today against a bunch of guys who have never really faced him. Not to mention he was nails when we needed him a week ago. Idk, i don’t see Hill getting destroyed today so I’m kinda in the boat if the Dodgers don’t score a bunch of runs today off of another scrub, then they don’t deserve to get in anyway. They shouldn’t need some huge game from Buehler to get in, they should be fired up that they have this opportunity and should make the best of it.
