Well I don't get it. Every deal "comes back to bite you" if you look at it hard enough. Every single one. Bar none. And in the fourth year, as it is the FA walk year, you trade him. Meanwhile , a proven RP like him would be real nice to have in the bullpen when the Cardinals are scrambling the CY/MVP's ass from pillar to post, wouldn't he? The fourth year wouldn't mean shit then, right? Or are we worried about value then?
Wait, I forgot we've got Peralta. Sorry...

Mariners Showing Increased Interest In Melky Cabrera
By Jeff Todd and Steve Adams [December 5, 2014 at 11:00pm CST]
11:00pm: The Mariners are indeed ramping up their pursuit of Cabrera, writes Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Heyman adds that the Mariners are believed to be willing to offer something similar to the four-year, $57MM contract they used to lure Cruz to the Emerald City. He also notes that the White Sox, Reds, Royals and Giants have all been linked to Cabrera.

Melky does make more sense than Kemp at this point. Seattle needs a 2-hole bat more than anything right now.

An executive from a team with interest in trading for Matt Kemp tells ESPN’s Jayson Stark that he’s still unconvinced that the Dodgers will actually move Kemp (Twitter link). Stark’s source feels that Andre Ethier is “still the guy they want to move.”

Hmm bloggers, writing hands (reporters), amateur writing Joe's (average commenting) talk and write about how a trade Kemp trade is a hot probability as they did at the trade deadline and just like at the trade deadline actual baseball executives say........hmmmmmm now what are they quoted as saying? Any quotes out there from team execs saying they have had productive talks with the Dodgers about Kemp? Any? Please share! There are some right? Any comments by Dodger executives?

And Hanley is probably going to play left field so what would Boston pay Kemp? Hmmm is the man that cheap and did he really give us a hometown deal when he signed this contract. Look what Prince got and how healthy he has been.
    _________________________________________________________________________________
So if you’re not going to get some serious phenom in return, why trade Kemp?
There’s zero power available in free agency and it’s becoming rarer in this
    post-steroids era.

I repeat: The unreliable, typically dour and frequently injured Ramirez just
signed for $88 million for four years. Kemp’s owed $106 million over the next
five and he’s a year younger. People who assume there is no way Kemp could
get an equal contract if he were a free agent now, best look at Ramirez. Can’t
imagine it would be too far off.

But this Dodgers’ team is built to win it all, right now. It won 94 games last year,
and it was considered a disappointing season. It’s difficult to imagine that a team
that is a player or a play away from the World Series is going to trade Kemp.

They want to shed some contract, they’d best do it while remembering their
primary charge is to win now. And logic says, that should include Kemp.

The Dodgers are pulling the classic bait and switch. We bring you in for the Antartic Blue Sportwagon, and then sell you the Metallic Pea Wagonqueen Family Truckster.

i haven't seen any quotes from team execs regarding any of our outfielders and the talks surrounding them. i guess that means they all stay..or maybe it just means that they won't publicly comment on player movement that hasn't been completed..which would be standard in most cases.

i haven't seen any quotes from team execs that say they're in on Lester either. not that i expect such..just sayin.

Well thanks for the advice..I guess if you disagree with someone, it's "settle down" these days. I've been "settling down" for 26 years. After each fail year. Fucking boring, like the "elite status" garbage.
I'm not raging in spite of what you write, it's just my opinion. No reason for you to be insulting about my age either; classless.
What is obviously missing from your response, predictably, is the reply to the core of mine to yours....would it have been nice to be able to go to a guy like Miller in the NLDS or not? Somehow, no sarcastic answer on that one like the others.
It it's got nothing to do with Ned's League signing or tradability at all, either. Zero.
You may not like my FA trade him idea, and sure "what if he sucks", etc., is very possible, I agree. And what if we don't have a reliable RP to come in again in that situation in the 7th? So, when is it OK to make the move on a guy you obviously wanted?
Maybe being great for all 4 yrs. is possible, too. It's never going to be a perfect deal and suit everybody's criteria, whether from a BB website or the FO. But shit, a huge hole could have been filled, and simply make all the difference. Does it leave a trade now of an important player the only avenue left to get a RP like Miller?
I figure I don't owe Freidman or Al-zaidi or Magic anything, like you do. I'm a fan and I want a winner, that's all that matters, in my book.
What is all this money for anyway? Do I give a shit how much more Kasten's grandchildren get 20 years or so from now? So what if I don't like the FO so far? Big deal...I've been reading similar dead BS for years now, and the results are always the same. Always. "They/he knows what needs to be done"...LOL.
There are/were particularly good players available , that would seem to fit right in and maybe fix our problems...and once they're gone, they're gone.
I guess it's because it's not my money and I'm not financially astute as you and others here are; big money guys who understand it all... and other teams aren't as wise as we are...but other teams win the WS championship, too; there's that.
    We don't.

    Dodgers Notes: Kemp, Lester, Martin
By Mark Polishuk [December 6, 2014 at 9:25am CST]
Here’s the latest from Chavez Ravine…
    • The Dodgers were allegedly planning to have a fairly quiet offseason, though given their involvement in several high-profile rumors, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman wonders if the club has changed its tune after seeing their rivals in San Francisco win yet another World Series. The Dodgers have spent so much time exploring a Matt Kemp trade, for instance, that some feel their efforts have gone beyond due diligence and they’re seriously thinking of moving the outfielder.
    • Andrew Friedman doesn’t mind “noise” about his team’s intentions, and Heyman suggests that the lack of certainty about the Dodgers’ winter plans could be of some use to the team. For instance, one rival executive thinks the Dodgers’ reported interest in Jon Lester could be a ploy to drive the left-hander’s price up and potentially keep him away from the Giants. Another rival exec says Lester “really isn’t an L.A. guy” and wouldn’t be prone to sign with a team only due to the money.
    • A source tells Heyman that the Dodgers offered Russell Martin a four-year, $74MM contract. Though it fell short of the five-year, $82MM deal that Martin received from Toronto, Los Angeles’ offer is the second-largest bid known to have been made for the catcher, topping the Cubs’ reported $70MM offer.

meh. a quiet off-season wouldn't be any change from last year's off-season. they didn't have any big name/big money free agent signings last year either. they took care of some of our own guys, but that's it..unless you call the smallish Cuban signings big name/big money additions. i don't..both were to spend big portions of last season in the minors.

though the nerds will get more shit than the last year's FO for having a quiet off-season. that much is certain.

good to see that they went up to a 18.5AAV for Martin. that's a respectable offer for a guy who'd probably be handing over the starting gig to Leon by the 4th year. maybe a similar overpay/offer for Lester over a shorter term? 5yrs/150M? or maybe not.

Yup, and IMO, one player that may have been that one "player away to win it all right now" just signed with the Yankees. In spite of all our problems last year, we still made it... to the post anyway, and as the deluge of NLDS explanations and defense of CK poured in, the overwhelming majority of them were "Mattingly did not have a dependable RP to go to". How true.
And a really good one just signed elsewhere. But we had to worry about 2018, and the deaded fourth year. I guess the Yankees didn't give a shit about it.
    What jerkoffs.

Predictable long drawn out novel of a post...yawn..

Not sure why I owe magic or friedman anything. Nice twist in the Al -Zaidi name tho..

Im a Big money guy? Thanks..

Not trying to be classless and call you old there bud..no offense intended.

I guess I should have just skipped your novel like I normally do.

BTW longer deals on bull pen arms never pan out.

And to answer you question you were anxiously waiting for, yes I would have like to be able to go to miller in the 7th inning if the NLDS..This much should be obvious...

Honestly no need for a response here, I'm not interested in going back and forth with you on this..

    Cheers!
