    • The Dodgers have added RHP Kevin Gowdy on a minor league deal, per the team’s MiLB transaction log. They assigned him to Double-A Tulsa, where he’ll start the season with the Drillers. Unless you’re an avid followers of minor league baseball, or a member of Gowdy’s extended family, you’re probably wondering who he is. Well, let me enlighten you. Kevin Gowdy was drafted in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. The Santa Barbara, CA native is a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher, who has experience as both a starter and reliever. In his MiLB career, Gowdy is 8-16 with a 5.42 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP in 80 games (39 starts). He’s struck out 184 and walked 109 in 216 innings. His less-than promising numbers are the reason the Dodgers signed him to be in Double-A. They see something they think they can work with, and will see if they can get him to play at a higher level. And if not, he’ll add some depth in the minor leagues.

Haha. I get that this competitive streak in him is part of what's made him so successful as a pitcher. And I understand what he's saying about the guac pricing - it's the principle. But man, I hope for his sake he can unwind a bit once he hangs up the cleats. He's got more money than he'll ever spend and paying 30 cents more for guac is not something he should be giving a second thought to.

A couple of observations after reviewing Greinke's stats:

    1. Overall he has a HOF worthy career. But of the six teams he's played for, BY FAR his best numbers were from his time in LA. I know he's always been about maximizing his earnings, but I wonder if he ever wonders, what if he stayed. I also wonder if that's due to the ballpark, the pitching coach, or something else like random luck.

    2. He's still pitching at age 39 (I could only wish Kershaw's back would hold up that long), but he won't get anywhere near 300 wins. It's a shame that we may never see that again. I guess I should never say never, but if you think of the four most dominant pitchers in today's game - Kershaw, Verlander, Scherzer, and Greinke - none will reach that milestone. In fact, only four have since 1990 - Maddux, Glavine, Clemens, and Johnson - and there's been an obvious shift in how starters are used in today's game. What's really perplexing is that even though pitchers are handled with kid gloves these days, there still seems to be more injuries and more time spent on the shelf.

imo it’s because they’re coddled that the injuries happen
used to be a kid would get called up and routinely go nine innings
nowadays they’re on pitch limits starting in little league and (again, imo) pitcher’s arms aren’t anywhere near as developed as they used to be
not saying it’s wrong — i mean, i certainly understand parents/coaches/organizations wanting to protect their investments — it’s just different now, especially with salaries being so high

    rock bottom
now we’re poaching from the rakuten monkeys (racists)

    J.P. Hoornstra@jphoornstra
Can confirm. It’s a minor league deal for Covey, a 31-year-old righty from Southern California, who went 6-29 with a 6.57 ERA in the majors from 2017-20. H/T to colleague @photowkb.

    CPBL STATS - #95, Mina@GOCPBL
UDN reports that former Rakuten Monkeys' Dylan Covey has signed a minor league deal with the Los Angles Dodgers. "We were unable to finalise the contract," said the Monkeys GM. "Covey is a great teammate with a good personality, we would love to re-sign him in the future." #CPBL

“I think [losing hitting coach Brant Brown] will be a big loss. But Aaron Bates is stepping in and I love Batesy, and I think he’s got a lot of good ideas. For me personally, it hurts a lot. I worked very closely with Brant for the last four, five years. And going back to when we cut Turner Ward loose, or he took the job with the Reds, I worked very closely with Brant for all those years. And so, for him being gone, that one’s going to be a tough one for me. But, I also love Batesy and of course I love Rob [Van Scoyoc]. Rob’s great, so we got two guys who are going to work well together I think.”
    — Max Muncy

"Batesy." Roberts continues to be contagious to this team. Not good.
