The general public yes but the rich are a different story imho. Texas has the death penalty and a fascination with guns and ammo and of course the more than occasional natural disasters. I don't know how Kershaw feels but if he's not liking it here isn't evident to me at least. My prediction for his extension isn't as dire as let's say my prediction for Tanaka and yes we will indeed see.
Texas is home and family for CK. He can become a free agent and still return to us. Barring serious injury he can wait and weigh his options. I think he returns to us but after we sign Tanaka which the odds of are roaring up.

Ken Gurnick is reporting that the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw are in discussions on a 10 year deal around 30 mil a year. Not sure if this is new info he is using or basing those numbers on the rumored contract talks from last season. That is some crazy money being talked about if true. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb...md=20140114&content_id=66638476&vkey=news_mlb
Not my money. I would be okay with that. I've been waiting for CK to sign an extension so I can finally get an authentic jersey.
Ace Clayton Kershaw has had ongoing discussions with the Dodgers about an extension that could reach ten seasons with over a $30MM annual salary, says Ken Gurnick of MLB.com. Club GM Ned Colletti said just recently that talks have been active, and of course the club reportedly extended Kershaw a $300MM offer during the 2013 season. Such a deal would make Kershaw the best paid player in baseball history, both in terms of total guarantee and annual salary. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are still in on the biggest open market pitcher of the offseason, Masahiro Tanaka. As Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com explains, the Yankees have an urgent need for Tanaka, while the Dodgers more aptly want the hurler. If Los Angeles nevertheless outbids the Yanks for the Japanese star, says Saxon, it would represent a fundamental power shift in the game. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/01/quick-hits-kershaw-tanaka-matsuzaka-twins.html __
Irish, why are 90% or more of the articles about what the club needs as if Tananka is a steak that should go to the neediest. What about what he wants? He is a free agent and is going to get a lot of money so why wouldn't his interest be in what is best for him and his family. We had to pay top dollar for Grienke because he had family pressure to go to Texas. Won't the media have a cow if he signs with us and we aren't the highest bidder. I would love to sign him and find out the Yankees, Cubs, Mariners and perhaps DiamondBacks out bid us. I wonder how the media would portray us then? Should they say we should not have had interest. Hmmm clubs may begin to regret the maximum 20 million signing fee if he doesn't go to the highest bidder. Their definition of everyone having a chance wasn't met to give us the advantage. Geeez I hope it does and the losers could have just outbid us for the rights and shut us out.
on one hand, i'd love for Kershaw to play this season out without a new deal just to keep the players and organization focused on making a good impression on him. i think that leverage would be good for the performance of the team in all areas. but on the other hand...based on all the moaning that's gone on already on the CK/contract issue, i can't imagine what level of chaos this place will reach if the deal doesn't get done before the season starts. smh so at the end of the day, i suppose i'd rather watch the Dodgers do well more than i'd care for a peaceful DSP. lol
looks like they're hoping to get it done before the weekend... ray: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/01/dodgers-trying-to-extend-kershaw-this-week.html
i don't see us being outbid if we want him, we're going to throw our muscle around that (now retracted) comment leaked about us saying that we wouldn't be outbid... imo that was done intentionally to get teams like the cubs, mariners, angels and d'bags out of the picture now it's down to us and the yankees, and tanaka's people have already indicated his preference to play on the west coast and i think the dodgers sudden desire to extend kershaw by this weekend is to make him feel like the priority (which he is) before bidding on tanaka but think about it... if we extend kersh and hanley, and sign tanaka (and factor in the signings/re-signings of haren, wright, uribe, perez, howell and wilson)... then, all of a sudden, we've had a very productive offseason :woot:
Irish, if we sign all of these folks the pressure on DBB would be immense. I can't quote folks on my PC my reply button won't put in the quotes.
