If I hear one more time that Matt Kemp was “disillusioned” for one reason or another I’m going to blow up. Honestly, what a loudmouth clown.

Kluber literally make ZERO sense for the Padres. They’re not a Cy Young pitcher away from competing and I’d argue they’re not 2 away either. The have two overpaid schlubs in Myers and Hosmer, a band of top prospects that are probably over a year away, they’ve traded away a huge chunk of their bullpen and have NOBODY currently on that roster is an above average all around ball player. Luis Urias should be good and Tatis should be a monster, but the rest of that team is a mess one way or another. Either Preller is about to do something insanely stupid or the Indians just begged our division rival with a top farm system to get involved so that we raise our offer for Kluber.

He’s not going to sign until Mid-Late January. Boras won’t let him sign before Machado does.

They were talking on the MLB radio today that most if not all the front offices in baseball have closed up shop until the end of next week. Someone said that many orgs are trying to get an “unspoken” agreement going of turning this time between Christmas and New Years into a vacation period so that these FO’s can finally have some down time.

The deliberation and F.O tactics can all be justified and rationalized to a degree.
But if MLB wants to compete with the other major sports as a year-round product they need to do something about this.
    Too much inactivity.
Baseball will always be a regional sport for the most part but they dont put themselves in a position for national conversation.
    Nothing happening isnt good.

I just don't get the "Dodgers have been to the WS two years in a row, and didn't have to get the premier player/players available". They didn't ? This is pre- emptive reasoning if Harper isn't signed, I would imagine.
Because I'm pretty sure we went out and got Darvish and Machado...if they weren't headliners, who then?
I know we passed on Stanton and Scherzer...but outside of them, I think we went big time.
    Just didn't work.
I think Harper gives us the upper leg on most as the weapon that makes the ultimate difference.
Sort of like the under the radar Russian hyper glide Mach 5 weapon that is real and fully developed, which the US has zero defense for.

I think we will get Harper because of logistics to home and the marketability period it’s hust of matter how much. Don’t be surprised if we also get Stanton on some type of discount because the Skankees want Mehchado

Generous, calling the pAAAds a rival. I mean, I get that they sort of are officially, but it wouldn't shock me if more than half of LAD fans were snoozing through those series and the rest just don't have anything else going on that day. Nobody really gives a rat's about them. I don't suspect the Indians will gain any leverage if that's their gameplan, so I'm leaning towards rockstar Preller getting ready to do something stupid..again.

Maybe that one lurking pAAAdre fan can clue us in? He always has questions and theories about LAD's finances as they continue to dominate the division and NL....so when you're dragging ass in the NL West for years and making landmark additions like " Eric Hosmer ", how many questions and theories must that elicit here with this Kluber fuckery?

I consider a "Rival" and "Divisional Rival" as two different things. To me a divisional rival is just what you call all the other teams in your own division. He is also supposed to be pursuing Realmuto harder in recent weeks. Preller is a fucking nut, I think I have said before, a buddy of mine was playing basketball with him around the time he became the Pads GM. He said the dude was either coked out of his mind or on speed pills cause he wouldn't slow down for a second. Admittedly, my buddy is a little off, but he is also one of those "can never say anything bad about anyone" types and he came back saying that Preller is a weird fucking dude.

Anyway, I think he is just a wild card in all this and dropping his name could be something that makes the Dodgers a little uneasy in all this since this Indians FO and the Pads FO have synced up recently. Them being the loose cannon types make them a more viable contender in any negotiation, plus they have the prospects to make a package enticing. The one thing working for the Dodgers is that the Pads don't have great/cheap MLB OF'ers. They have guys that are already up in Margot and Renfroe, but both have been disappointments and have a larger sample size to pick from. The Dodgers OF options offer more intriguing upside(Verdugo) or have had extended MLB success(Pederson), plus there are decent complimentary pieces the team could likely add (Toles, Peters) that could offer to fill a second gap or are close to doing so.

After all of this, I still return to how stupid it would be for the Padres to go all in this season. They are still a year away, they just don't have the complimentary pieces yet and doing something big now is likely going to cost them, not help them.
