Dodger hitters' history against Fiers is pretty ugly. A's vs Kershaw too. So tonight could be high scoring. Because baseball.

Dodger starters throw 5.37 innings/game, on average. This ranks 11th best out of 15 NL teams. For comparison, Washington's starters are best with 5.77 innings. So our pen is used for about 4/10ths of an inning more per game. Does that seem like a lot? I'm not sure. SD is worst at 5.08.

What's interesting though is that LA's starters have the NL's lowest ERA (3.35)... considerably better than 2nd best STL (3.53). Washington, whose starters go the farthest per game, has an ERA of 3.88 by their rotation. So what does this mean? Can we conclude that Roberts uses his starters wisely, taking them out early enough to limit the damage? Or could we say that our low ERA indicates that there's room to let them go longer? Again, I have no idea. Obviously pitch counts and matchups factor in too. All I know is that I thought Roberts let Hill go one batter too long yesterday, but maybe in general he should give his starters a slightly longer leash to help keep the pen from all having dead arms in September.

Regarding pitch count, LAD's starters throw 3.85 pitches per PA, which is 5th lowest, so it's not like they're inefficient relative to other teams.

A day off for Kiki. Good to see Kershaw get an A lineup behind him. (Or A- without Kemp?)

He plays better on teams with no expectations.

Hopefully Manny isn't another one of those.

i often wondered if that wasn't the case
a guy who excels when there's little or no stakes/consequences
but freezes up under the big lights
i'd like to think manny is just trying to do too much and will eventually settle down
but until he does the verdict will remain out
sure seems like dozier isn't adversely affected though

Thanks for the invite to DSP. I really love the stuff you guys have to say. Everyone seems
really cool except ... WTF is up with that @huh? dude?!!! I'm no expert, but he seems like
the kind of guy that whacks off to midget anime porn in his wife's minivan. Not that there's
anything wrong with that. Oh well, gotta run.

Problem is what do you do with the players who are average until the big lights come up and they excel?
Who is more valuable... the all star during the regular season or the guy who plays like an all star in the post season?

If you don't perform in the regular season, there is no postseason.
