All of the trades were contingent on one another since some of the minor leaguers acquired are being moved. One of the guys in the Chinchilla trade will complete the Rollins trade.
Some good conversation on MLB network today on the trade. Consensus reason why Kemp was traded makes sense and made the trade inevitable. Dodgers want Joc in centerfield next year and Kemp and Puig are both right fielders and only one could stay and that was Puig. Kemp was miserable in left and when that experiment failed last year the trade became inevitable. The risk and a real risk is that Puig and Joc were both ineffective last September and the Dodgers better hope they are both at expected and hoped for performance levels next spring. Rosenthal said something interesting that the new ownership has only been in place a couple of years and they only know the recovering from injury Matt Kemp and not the beast mode Kemp. The front office personnel who knew the beast mode Kemp and saw it coming back after the all star break are now gone and working for the Diamond Backs and Padres both teams who wanted him. cp,
Well we can expect a lot of 1-0 wins this year it looks like. Our pitching and Defense is badass...but...our lineup lost about 40HRs, 80 Stolen Bases, 50+ clutch hits, and lots of RBIs.
i agree. they shouldn't ever plan to have AGon on base in front of Puig and slowing down Puigmania on the bases vs. RHP Rollins CC Puig AGon Kendrick Joc Uribe Grandal vs. LHP Rollins Puig AGon SVS Kendrick Uribe Joc Ellis
I'm gonna miss matt kemp, the man, the teammate. We've all grown attached because of his awesome 'mvp' season and the couple months after. I think a lot of people still see that as reasonable production for matt but it's not. Matt wasn't that valuable the last two years. His steamer/zips projections probably have him around 3 wins so we're definitely not missing any of the play. The only loss in the trade is his personality in the club house. And his good looks. We'll be a better team but ima miss my nig :/ tbh I'm sad but not mad or anything It's like when you let go of your bucket first car for a brand new whip. There's sentimental value lost but you will eventually learn to love the new one
I was against trading Kemp for the offense we would lose at the plate. With the acquisitions of Kendrick and Rollins, I am a little less concerned. Grandal is an upgrade over Ellis. I thought we should be able to get more for Kemp though. With that, i am not going to cry about it. I support the Dodgers, not the players. I like the look of our team now. Massive improvement up the middle defensively, and a bunch of good hitters, if not power hitters. The game has moved away from the power hitter anyways in the post-roid era. Looking foward to the season to come. A couple of bullpen arms would be nice now.
Logan white and others in the Dodgers front office are now with the Padres and would know what hevwas like in the club house.
I don't know if we could have gotten more but I was hoping a Cashner or a Ross would have been included even if you could sacrifice the 2nd prospect. I wonder if Kemp hadn't been so good the last half of 2014 if we'd be upset at the return. Not calling anyone out just wondering. I just hope we won't count this trade along with the Beard and Delino trades in the annals of bad deals that costs us big.
Seeing as though he now getting paid to beat us for 2 years I think it might be up there with those deals. What happens if he gets beaned and it led to a fight where say zach gets hurt. We have essentially paid for kemp to hurt zach. Sounds like a winner to me. Still find it hard to believe we couldn't give someone Ethier plus 30m for an average catcher and whatever prospect
Good point about Kemp...but he was that good n the second half. And whether it be fantasy or not, his physical troubles may be at bay, at least for a while. He'll never run like he did once, but he still can crush the ball. And we don't know shit about the clubhouse, as some think they do. Grandal is not anything that great, IMO, and I think with 32 million attached to it, we took a bath. I saw the explanation of why it happened, too... so whose our OF now? As far as Dee, I initially thought "bite your tongue and accept that we got a great young pitching prospect along with the minor league catcher and two others"...but what we got, is Kendrick. The LAA look good on this one. Like some talking head said today when breaking down this trade, wondering why the fuck the Dodgers did it at all, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Indeed.
Ideally, I'm with you. I want to believe this is still true. But they traded Jackie Robinson to the Giants. Jackie to the fucking Giants. Or tried... They'll do anything now...anything. I couldn't help think about what Vinny thinks about all this shit that went on in the last two days. Guess we'll have to wait on that for a while...
Maybe the dude has a point, maybe not. What it 'feels like" may be accurate, maybe not. I think Vernon Wells was further along in his skills and hitting ability being diminished than Kemp's are at this present time compared to Wells at his. I do agree that Kemp is not an inspirational leader type though. Not at all. and I disagree that the padres will really suck next year, as badly as he wrote. Matt's gone, and I just hope Yasmani (what's with all the "Y" names on Cuban guys?) works out. It all will reveal itself. I'm trying not to be a cynic, because to the cynic, nothing is revealed. I actually feel more out of joint over the Dee trade than Matt.
Yeah, right... Yorvit, another "Y" named Hispanic guy (?), just picked him up and slammed him down. And I remember the MacDonald thing too. And Chase Utley taking a cheap shot at Martin on a play at home and Peavy screaming in at Martin to "get back in the batter's box". And remember how insulted some were over what Kent said ?
I actually am really pumped about Grandal from what I've read about his offensive production and pitch framing. Some posters have said he's an "average" hitter for a catcher, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Projected wRC+ is around 113, 13% above league average. Not to mention that the average wRC+ for the catching position is probably below 100.
he knows what kemp was like in the dodger clubhouse the padres is a lot different -- not as many big salaries/egos and kemp was one of many of them on the dodgers in san diego, he is their big name they will placate his ego and do whatever it takes to keep him happy
Well, he's not good at throwing out runners, not good at keeping the ball in front of him, which means it wouldn't be smart for him to catch Kershaw, and his batting average has stunk since coming off steroids after his rookie season.
