I actually don't have much of a problem with this trade from a baseball perspective at all

Either way you slice it, it's an upgrade offensively and defensively. He never was going to catch Kershaw in the first place. Batting average? We're going with that now?

james loney had an ops of like 1.040 the last 50 games a few seasons back. Doesn't mean anything tbh

Toss this with the other sss cherry picked stats with arbitrarily picked end points tbh

they'll also suck and be on the bottom of our shoe, so Kemp isn't gonna be happy half the time. i give it 2 years before he asks for a trade.

Another great moment in Dodger tradition and history. Legendary ownership family named O'Malley, Legendary farm director named Logan White along with one of our best modern era farm products all together capturing a high point in Dodger history; Sorry BZ no body promised us a rose garden and said it would be with the Dodgers. O'Malley, White and Kemp together in San Diego and available for all on tv.

You know CK isn't the only high priced pitcher on the team. What if they all want AJ to catch them? Then what? Force feed them this dude? Let him sit while we pay kemp to hit bombs into right center against us? Bogus fucking trade. This is very reminiscent of a dark time not so long ago

umm, Greinke's likely gone after this year anyway. the scope of this trade extends past his tenure.

and Ellis probably has a year left before Barnes comes up and replaces him.

and if Grandal keeps progressing as a hitter, and does well, he might eventually take AGon's place at 1B in a few years, with Leon taking his place at catcher. get over it, dude..Kemp is gone and this is about as much as they could've gotten. they've gotten high marks for the trade.

Lol exactly. for example; Chiefs goes in on McCarthy because he doesn't believe in McCarthy's 2nd half with the Yankees, but he pumps up Kemp's 2nd half. smh

Yup, it's true...this is the way it is now, and all the pessimistic moaning, groaning and optimistic elated wanking over it isn't going to change a damn thing. This is what we are going with, and hopefully, we can at least duplicate what we did last year, which is win 94 games and the division with the toxic Kemp and the now "upgraded" Dee Gordon position, ML leader with 67 SBs.
It seems to me that the biggest hole we had was an effective BP, which fixing has yet to come on any dramatic scale, IMO. I'm sure the old guy has his worth, but not the total answer. Many of the changes look like table setters for the future, which is OK, but I do wonder with our payroll how far they are looking into it.
The fact that they are getting (not all) thumbs up by the know it all writers, is a bit scary, given so many predictions and "done deal" BS stamp utter failures. Some here sound awfully smug about a team who has made some prtty big deals in the last quarter century, and done really nothing But, it will all come out in the wash.
Basically the Dodgers have sucked for years, underachievers and total disappointments as we all watched our bitter , historical rivals rise to the top of the BB world. Whether these moves that most are drooling over changes that remains to be seen.
I don't even know if that's important any more...

A bit murky in meaning to my age addled brain Tubo...why are you referring to me again? Is this sarcasm using a "high point" for losing again? As usual? OK.
Am I the only one who feels the frustration and disappointment of being losers since '88? So be it.
What does it all matter anyway? It's BB; we haven't known how to be winners at it as much as some other teams do for a long, long time. Dat's a fact, jack.
Now it's the NerdCo's chance to make it happen...sooner or later, every dog has it's day.

If the pitching staff acts like the pads staff and doesn't want grandal to catch them. Then what?

Logan would know what Kemp was like when he and Dre were the show along with Kershaw . He knows the history from draft pick to now.

Yes it was meant for you out of respect of seniority and tradition. You lived and grew up in the O'Malley family era. They bidder on the Dodgers to bring it back and list the bid. Is there lingering resentment who knows. Part of the new rumors are them still going after Upton. Question unless the TV contract is resolved will it be easier to see Kemp play in San. Diego or Joc in LA.

If Grandal is the best pitch framer in the cosmos, why wouldn't a pitcher , on any level, want him? Not throwing out runners is a pretty serious flaw, and not blocking the ball well is certainly another, especially for sinker/ slider pitchers, as already mentioned. So true.
I guess it's all about the offense, unless the flavor of the month stat "pitch framer" is all that. I realize it could make a difference on a big walk to the outcome of the game in certain circumstsnces, but his D seems so not great, maybe AJ level, but potential with he bat makes the deal real. I guess.
AJ has to play some anyway, so it might as well be when CK pitches, if it works so well. AJ was damn good with his O in the post...maybe a turnaround sign? Maybe?

Is this an established fact? As much as Logan knows Kemp as has been mentioned by others I would think Josh Byrnes knows Grandal. We all have to remember that we practically traded FO personnel with the Padres.

Rivera has the disadvantages of age (31, entering his first year of arbitration eligibility), but few can match his combination of defense and game-calling. He gained league-wide praise for his pitch-framing, including from MVP candidate Jonathan Lucroy, while throwing out 36 percent of baserunners. What’s more, as Grandal saw more time at first base, Rivera became the primary catcher for all three of the Padres’ top starters.

He's such a wonderful "pitch framer" that the staff didn't want him? Catcher so wonderful at framing becomes a glorified dh? You mean the guys who make a living pitching preferred a 31 year old backup over him? Things that make you go hmmmmm
