so a few things are clear to me
the dodgers are dealing in human drug trafficking. everyone acting likes its a shock but all players know the game.
puigs life is still in danger and he is both a narc and a vengeful motherfucker but thats how the shit goes down. especially in the south, at least thats whats been related to me by friends and cubano inmates i spent a night in costa rican jail with. i would hate to be the guys responsible for turning them in because they were going to pay in blood.
tit for tat watch your back.
machetes, isla mujeres, chicken blood and rum. i may have unknowingly been practicing santeria the last five years.
    holy shit what a story.

Wow...more intrigue than I ever figured. Quite a story, and well done reporting, IMO, by the writer.
I can't help thinking of "42", which is a story that will never be equaled in what it is about, can a film about "66" be far away?
All the elements are there for a great yarn, but I guess waiting to see if Yasiel is still a superstar down the road may be the criteria.
Maybe Kevin Costner can do something with it.

Wow, another in a long line of stories that puts perspective into our complaints in this country and drives home the point of how lucky we all are for the lives we get to live.

    wow, great read
most of the people pushing through the turnstiles have no idea what this young man has been through -- and, continues to go through
so it's easy for them to label him immature, reckless, stupid, etc... hell, i've even done it a bit myself
imo, it's time for the whole cuban trade embargo thing to (if not) be done away with, to (at least) be modified/mitigated
1962 was a long fucken time ago
jfk and bobby are long gone, as is che
brighter minds than mine can certainly put something together -- something to make fidel look like the hero
commercial/economic/financial concerns are one thing, but we're talking about people's lives
early in the article, castro says he detested the mlb because it treated players like slaves
yet the players/people who defect from cuba fit that to a tee
so let's get this resolved, sooner rather than (what's already been far too much) later
the "cuba being socialist state" rhetoric has grown tired
looking forward to sparking a (legit) cohiba, montecristo or punch habana at the opening day 2015 lair event, and watching fidel toss out the first pitch

Puts shit in perspective that is for sure. I knew the journey here was hard but I didn't really think about how dangerous it was!!!! It makes me in some ways angry at these human traffickers are getting away with extortion and blatant criminal behavior but it also makes me feel guilty for the being blinded by the need to have a great sports team to cheer on. I hope bringing to light this plight will affect some changes to the system but I'm not holding my breath. I also hope when us as fans or critics and analysts question Yasiel's demeanor or criticize his enthusiastic play will be a little more understanding. HE'S YOUNG AND IS JUST HAPPY TO BE IN AMERICA YOU BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!

Crazy story. I knew people don't just walk out of Cuba, but I didn't know how deep it could get. What really stands out are the number of enemies he has made along the way, and for a kid his age, not knowing who to trust, it's truly not fair. Like others have said, it really puts things into perspective.

Having an idea of what Puig goes through, and knowing there is probably so much more he is holding onto that nobody knows, it will be hard not to root for this guy for a long time to come.

its not about working it out w all due respect. castro and his family love their absolute power absolutely.
my kids friend has cuban blood and her family went to visit about 3 years ago.
statues and billboards everywhere testifying to the greatest of fidel and his brother.
she was shocked by how little anyone felt comfortable talking about and most conversations were held in whispers about the most innocuous subjects.
they aren't giving up all that money and power held by fear until the people revolt.
and strangely enough there are a large percentage just fine w the status quo of state dictated existence.

What were you doing to get tossed into a Costa Rican jail? I'm going there at the end of the year.

    Not the jail. ..

I have not seen it in Cuba but I have seen it elsewhere and it's always humbling to consider their peace with the status quo

People have hushed conversations here too
For some reason folks are under the impression they are being spied, disarmed, disenfranchised and fleeced.
