"He knows what the Dodgers mean to L.A. Magic is very important to L.A., and the fans love him. This is a pretty good day for the Dodgers."
"All I could think about was being in the on-deck circle and seeing Magic in one of the owners' seats," he said. "It will be fun to have him around." --Matt http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/n...0328&content_id=27699308&vkey=news_la&c_id=la
great video magic sounds as stoked as we are everyone should listen to this... http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/...gic-johnson-deal-good-day-los-angeles-dodgers
He has a past with Stan Kasten so don't jump the gun besides I don't think an upheaval like this at the beginning of a season other than a positive one like Magic's ownership is necessarily a good thing overall. I know the board is clamouring for a GM change but I don't personally think it is going to happen. It's not as if Magic is coming into a dire situation where a wholesale change is necessitated, there are bright spots on that field for years to come (Kersh, Kemp, Guerra, Jansen et al)
know what's nice? we've had new ownership for less than a day and already we're being mentioned ahead of the yankees viva la revolution!!! Latest On Phillies, Cole HamelsBy Ben Nicholson-Smith [March 28 at 3:30pm CST]The Phillies know how much it will cost to lock Cole Hamels up to an extension, and the sides appear to be making progress toward a long-term deal, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports. No deadline exists, but Opening Day looms as an unofficial turning point for the negotiations. One person tells Salisbury that the Phillies are prepared to pay the left-hander in excess of $20MM per season on a multiyear deal. However, contract length is an issue, as the Phillies prefer a four-year agreement, while Hamels and agent John Boggs want more.Another person said talks have been progressing and predicted the sides will reach an agreement. This means there’s still a chance the Phillies will keep Hamels off of the open market and away from potential bidders like the Dodgers and Yankees. The 28-year-old is on track to hit free agency after the 2012 season.
It almost never happens that a deal for a free agent to be is reached mid-season, he will hit the market if he is unsigned on 4/5.
That mostly depends on the player, and I agree, I feel as if Cole doesn't want to negotiate in season. On our team though, Ethier seems extremely willing to deal during the season which is great news for us. I'm rather surprised at this, cause honestly i'll say that basically every big name to be free agent doesn't want to sign in-season but Ethier is willing to. I'd bet our chances of resigning him are very likely now
Hamels joining Kershaw is too much to even hope for... I'm still giddy about Magic/Guggenheim ousting McCrook but asking for Hamels would make me feel sort of thankless...
This ownership with this timing could make a number of folks interested in becoming free agents. That includes Hamels etc etc. Clearly the Dodgers and this new owner are going to make a statement for the 2013 season if not sooner. Kasten has the history of success and we can sit back and have confidence he knows what he is doing. I wonder what Fielder is feeling now? Lots of athletes like and respect Magic and playing for him and Kasten could get folks pumped to play here even if for a million less per year. Stability and that includes DBB is really worth a few million to many.
Gotta believe that will be the first statement made if it is a wise one. Magic is close to the scene and the attitude of the players and Kasten knows talent and we have folks in the front office who do (not necessarily Ned). If Dre is worth the money gotta believe they make that happen sooner or later if Dre wants to stay. Kasten has along with Magic have got to have opinions on Ned and he could be a required house cleaning casualty just to sooth Dodger fans.
