i remember dusty baker getting upset about cora's bat flip, saying there was no place for that type of showboating in baseball yeah, this coming from the guy who managed one of the biggest showboats of all times... bonds hypocritical idiot
its not hate, but I dont want to have another "the next great thing" prospect blow in our face... he held Hu until his trade value was none, just to realize that he never had a real value...
Dodgers chasing Torii Hunter is a good thing. Angels were STUPID to let him go. STUPID. Hit .315 with clutch hits all the time. I'd rather he return to the Angels but that ain't happening so I now hope the Dodger spend whatever it takes to land him. Stand up player. Clubhouse leader. Always hustles. Always has good attitude. That last one alone is worth $10M in the Dodgers clubhouse
This says a lot about why the dodgers should think twice before signing him. Abreu is known for being a good guy too, then he got his playing time cut and became a whining bitch. I admire the desire to compete but you can't let it get in the way the greater good, ultimately the checks still cash. The difference with hunter in this situation is he would know going into the contract what his job will be. If he signs with la and doesn't like his playing time, it's all on him
back then my seats were always on third base and it was really fun watching cesar get to the ball in the hole
Izturis/Cora was my first SS/2B combo of my die hard fan hood. Izzy, Cora, Green, Beltre, Roberts, Jordon, McGriff, La Duca, Brown, Gagne, Quantrill, Shuey, Mota, etc.
Always welcome dissimilar opinions... 1) Hunter, unlike many MLB players, has always manned up. So if he signs under those conditions then I expect that he'll continue to maintain the presence of a clubhouse leader 2) Lets define "greater good"; I claim the greater good is providing the most offensive production without being a defensive liability. Kemp is our local hero with 106 games played at .303 BA, 23HR, 22-2B and 69 RBI's and an OPS of .906; OK that's one OF slot. Ethier is truly the only other 'keeper' among the Dodgers outfielders with a .284BA, 20 HR, 36 2-B, 89 RBI's and .812 OPS. Solid stats too. Now exactly how far down the rest of the pathetic Dodger outfielder lineup do we have to plummet before it WOULD NOT be in the "Greater Good" to insert Hunter with a .313 BA, 16HR, 24-2B, 92 RBI's and .817 OPS?? Victorino hit .255 with 11HR and 29 doubles and should have played better but still 'how much better' to beat Hunters last season? He's capable of being the 3rd OF but not when he's hitting .255. And Abreau snuck into 92 games and hit .246 with 3HR and 11 doubles; he's old and fat and slow and shouldn't be on an MLB roster in 2013 let alone the Dodgers roster. Admittedly it was a good year for Hunter getting to follow phenom Mike Trout to the plate but if he can't crack the Dodger starting lineup then DBB isn't looking out for the "greater good" IMO.
Hitting 313 last year was great for hunter and couldn't have come at a better time for him. It's a contract year, but you are buying high on him. That 313 brought his career average up to 277. Was he a fluke? IMO, yes. You're getting torii hunter not some hidden gem that just had a break out year at 36 years old. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on him, dudes a solid player but at best your gambling he reproduces 2012. What ever you pay for him, he's a stop gap because the dodgers have a 20 million dollar third OFer who supposed to be back around the all star break. You better believe he will get a chance to play everyday at that point as he is a part of this teams future, not hunter. They will get him every AB they can and hunter will go to the bench. Once there all bets are off statistically. Clubhouse guy or not, you can't "expect" anything from the bench. Some guys handle it well, get a few ABs and rock it, others rust. I've never seen him play that way so I don't know how he'll respond. If the dodgers really don't care about money, get him, fuck the money. I say it all the time when the yanks get an Ibanez or jones but those guys had Victorino and Abreu numbers. Ibanez just had some clutch dingers in the playoffs this year.
Yeah clearly I'd overlooked our getting Crawford... because he's not yet ever seen the light of day in a Dodger uniform perhaps... Kemp Ethier & Crawford make a solid outfield. In which case it's as you stated... Hunter simply becomes insurance. But Hunter wants to play daily and bringing Crawford to the OF grass should diminish Hunters game playing time. Hard to relate to the Dodgers as we do the damned Yankees... Otherwise fuck it let Hunter return to the Angels then...
