I wouldn't say "giving up", but if we don't win I won't be heartbroken. As it is, for me personally, I have plans and can't watch.
i guess the 88 comparisons w orel sunk in subliminally for me today and i called CK Hershaw! can go w Kershisher as well lol
also if we were to somehow sneak a win out tomorrow i think roberts might save kersh for game 3 at home but down 0-1 he probably starts him hoping we don't go down 0-2
My prediction for this series? Here it is: The negativity in this game thread will be at an all-time high. I understand that it's just how some guys cope, but jeez, in game 5 it was beyond absurd.
I think it's Kershaw no matter what. Who else would start? Hill and Urias just pitched in Game 5, and they set up well for games 3 and 4. Unless the game 2 starter is someone who wasn't on the NLDS roster (like Wood), then it almost has to be Kershaw.
I wouldnt say Game 1 is a loss, but with Maeda on the mound and the BP having been used alot in the Nats series, Maeda just cant have the meltdown he did in Game 3. Needless to say, we may need the bats to really break through. If w do eek out a win in Game 1, my strategy would push CK's start to Game 3 at home. Give him the rest he needs. Game 2, I would start Hill again with a short leash and Urias backing him up...like a split start.
Starting Hill in game 2 means he would have to go on 2 days rest after going on short rest in his last start, and Urias would also have to pitch on 2 days rest. It would also take both out of consideration for Game 4. If Kershaw doesn't pitch Game 2, it would have to be a Wood or maybe Stripling start.
I remember this lil nugget from Jason Stark almost eight years ago, thought it was worth a post. Cubs over Dodgers Amazingly, you could make a case that the Cubs' Octobers have gone way better than the Dodgers' Octobers -- at least lately. Since 1989, the Cubs have won seven times as many postseason games as the Dodgers (7-1). And we see that trend holding up this year, too. The biggest reason to pick the Dodgers would be their improved, Manny-fied offense, right? Well, what does it tell you that the Cubs outscored the Dodgers over the past two months (275-250) even with Manny Ramirez, and outscored L.A. by 155 runs over the course of the season? One NL executive's description of Manny's supporting offensive cast: "Thin." We agree. The Cubs' pitching is rested and recharged. The Dodgers need too much to go right. Cubs in four.
never liked jason stark pompous self-righteous little bkitch at least guys like kurkjian and olney give us fair credit and critique the rest of espn can go suck a fat dick and watch... if we win the world series those clowns will jump on our bandwagon quicker than you can say chris berman sucks i know a lot of people don't like eric byrnes (mlb network) but before the lds he said "i won't be surprised if the dodgers get through washington and chicago and end up in the world series" takes balls to go against all the other "experts" and say something like that so credit where credit's due let's hope we can make him a genius
not sure if it's negativity or just being guarded/jaded by past letdowns but we have a huge opportunity this series the cubs are supposed to win they know it, we know it, and everyone else does too but with such expectations comes pressure the pressure to meet those expectations and with the cubs the pressure to break their 100+ years curse but imagine for a moment... if we were to somehow take the lead in the series -- especially if things just seemed to be going our way you could just imagine the "here we go again" rumblings from the cubs faithful and the media would jump on it too then the pressure would be that much more immense now i realize that's a lot of ifs and not very likely but strange stuff happens in october stuff that no one can foresee not saying it will happen only that it could go dodgers
To carry on with the '88 theme, that NLCS series was a grind out battle to 7 games with an unlikely hero in Mike Sciossia and the Bulldog on the mound. We had no business winning that series after the Mets spanked us all regular season (I don't think we won a game against them). It was such a miracle that in that movie Bad Lieutenant, the Mets win that series, as if what should have happened miraculously happened. Then with a beat up pitching staff, and our only offensive power, injured and declared out for the series, we meet the "unbeatable" A's that just blew through the AL all year. We had NO chance they said. And with that, even Tudor goes down that 1st game. As they say, the rest is history and the improbable turned into the impossible. To quote another coach.....that is why you play the game. Yes, the odds are against us, but I have this feeling in my heart that it is the scrappy team, the one that has had to battle and fight all season long.....never a break given to them....and yet pulled out the wins when tney needed to, these teams have the advantage. This Dodger team has not known the word "easy" all season...so they have learned to adapt. The Dodgers and Cubs are nore evenly matched than you think. The Cubs were in a much weaker NL Central than people think. Alot of their wins, they coasted, and Arrieta has not been the same pitcher from last year. I want ESPN to keep drinking the Cubs Kool-Aid. Will make it feel that much better when we get this.

Good luck but you guys have no shot. The Cubs are the best team is baseball and the best team always wins. You might get a win in Kershaw's start, but that's one game. Our starters are better, our offense is better, our bullpen is better, and our closer is the best. You guys have heart, I'll give you that. And in any other year you might have got to the World Series. But the Cubbies are destined. Its our year, we've earned it. Like I said good luck, but we already know the outcome.
Game 1 is a horrible matchup but maybe that works in our favor getting it out of the way... I think if we steal game 1 somehow we should definitely win the series. Please win a pennant for me at least. LET'S GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!
