Thy would make a great cop duo in a comedy movie. Mixing arrests with sassy one-liners.

I don't have a problem with them doing the one year thing for the bullpen. Whether people on here or around the fanbase believe it or not, the organization has some high impact bullpen arms already. The matter is just getting some of the healthy. A healthy Liberatore and Dayton together is a formidable bridge to Jansen. Guys like Sborz, Buehler and Sheffield are also names to watch at the end of the season if the club just wants them up.

Yeah, not sure if they should give any of these relievers more than a 1yr deal.
Not when they control effective guys like Dayton and Liberatore that they've traded for, and brought up farm options that have impressed like Stripling and Ravin.
Have young farm hands like Brock, Sheffield, Sborz and Oaks that could be used at various points, and also MLB level guys like Wood/McCarthy/Ryu that could serve in the pen, so I can see why they maybe wouldn't go past a 1yr deal for what's available.
Could just make a trade for a better/younger/below the radar option.

Josh Fields was also pretty solid for us last year and his ERA was heavily inflated in Houston where his FIP 2.83. He could be an interesting one to watch this year.

I agree with much of this as well as CKWG's response. My only reservation is who would be the set-up man? Blanton was very effective in that role last year. Can we expect the same reliability from any of the names you mentioned? I just don't want to see it default to Baez.

Oh man, I remember when Ike Davis first came up with the Mets. I used to watch ESPN back then, and I remember they couldn't get enough of him :whack:

    Yuup
Made the little deal for Nuno as well earlier this off-season, though we should probably expect more noise from Fields w/the gas.
    No shortage of options.
He obviously pitched well for us, but signing Joe Blanton to a multi-year deal is sorta Arizona-ish..the move when your system is utterly ass.
I could see LAD maybe upping the $ figure on a 1yr deal for Blanton tho

When he first came up, he was good. Then he had a 32 HR year where he was actually pretty bad overall and never came close to even duplicating that.

Baez is annoying because when he gives up something it's probably loud, but he's not that bad.
My answer to your question would be " opportunity ".
When opportunity is given, sometimes it's taken by the horns..sorta like Blanton did last year.
Give another guy like say Dayton an opportunity and he may reward..same can be said for Liberatore.
Guys are reliable until they aren't..again, sorta like Blanton last year.
Served us well until the biggest moment and then shit right in the middle of our parade.
But again, it's still trade season, so they could still find more below the radar guys like the aforementioned fellas.

I'm pretty sure a year ago, just about everyone on this board was pissed that Blanton was even on the roster. We all thought Hatcher was the guy after his dominant performance down the stretch. You never know who could emerge and become dominant out of the pen. This is the first time in a while where I can honestly say that the bullpen looks pretty damn good going into the season.

i was one of the few who liked the blanton signing
and i'd like to see him re-signed
he had a rough patch during the season when he was overused
and i think the same thing happened in the post
not saying he didn't shit the bed -- he did
but we also wouldn't have gotten to that point without him imo

Blevins likely to receive minimum of 2 years
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

After premature concerns over the financial state of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the need to become compliant with MLB debt guidelines, the club emphatically put to rest any unease by committing $192 million this winter to re-sign key free agents Rich Hill, Kenley Jansen and Justin Turner.

The lavish spending, however, was more the exception than the rule. Having acquired a second baseman on a team-friendly contract in Logan Forsythe, the Dodgers’ focus lies in filling out their bullpen.

Though, the club remains staunch in their preference to do so on one-year contracts. That may remove Los Angeles from potentially signing Jerry Blevins, as it’s believed the left-hander will sign a minimum of a two-year contract, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

"Agents for the top two remaining free-agent left-handers, Jerry Blevins and Boone Logan, are signaling to teams that the pitchers will secure deals of at least two years and $12 million."

The Dodgers were first connected to Blevins earlier this week. The left-hander appeared in a career-high 73 games with the New York Mets last season.

Blevins went 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA, 3.05 FIP and 1.21 WHIP, while averaging career-bests 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings and a 29.2 strikeout rate. It was a successful bounce-back from Blevins’ 2015 season that came to an early end because of surgery after re-fracturing a bone in his throwing arm.

The veteran reliever suffered the initial fracture last April when was struck by a line drive on his forearm. Blevins had begun throwing in effort to return when he slipped while stepping off a curb, leading to the season-ending surgery.

While Blevins was effective for the Mets last season, the Dodgers don’t have a clear need for a left-handed reliever. Their bullpen could feature any mix of Luis Avilan, Grant Dayton, Adam Liberatore, Vidal Nuno or potentially Alex Wood. Of note, Dayton, Liberatore and Nuno all have options remaining.
