    how hard is it for these guys to get some unknown buddy/person to buy this stuff for them? seems really fucking stupid to have your name connected to anything even remotely in question. guess bb players will never be accused of thinking it through.

    When you have a title such as an "alternative" to steroids, yadda yadda athletes just want to check it out and this guilty til innocent trend towards PED's is enough. The guy is labeled just for being curious and athletes are often times just plain stupid as well. I mean look at all the guys losing their money because of stupidity. As for having someone else go check it out that would be more discrete but then you'd have to pay him for his silence.

    Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said on ESPN Radio on Wednesday that in 2008 "former members of the organization" told him performance-enhancing drugs were an option to help him get healthy and extend his career.

    Schilling, who had signed a one-year contract with Boston in 2008 but did not pitch that season due to a shoulder injury, would not identify who was involved in the conversation, or whether it was a player, coach or staff member.

    "At the end of my career, in 2008 when I had gotten hurt, there was a conversation that I was involved in, in which it was brought to my attention that this is a potential path I might want to pursue," Schilling, who is currently an ESPN analyst, told ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd.

    Schilling said the topic came up in a clubhouse conversation that could be overheard by several teammates.

    "It was an incredibly uncomfortable conversation," he added. "Because it came up in the midst of a group of people. The other people weren't in the conversation but they could clearly hear the conversation. And it was suggested to me that at my age and in my situation, why not? What did I have to lose? Because if I wasn't going to get healthy, it didn't matter. And if I did get healthy, great.

    "It caught me off guard, to say the least," he added. "That was an awkward situation."

    Schilling officially retired from baseball in March 2009.​

    Felix Hernandez is about to sign the most lucrative contract any pitcher has ever obtained. The Mariners have agreed to sign the 26-year-old right-hander to a seven-year, $175MM contract, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. Alan Nero of Octagon represents Hernandez, whose deal should be finalized before Spring Training.​

    Kershaw could be looking at $190M easily. If he signs a 7-year deal after this season.

    Remember that 2014 is an Arbitration year, so they will probably agree on $18-20M because that is what he would have gotten from an arbitrator, assuming a typical Kershaw year. Then Kershaw's free agent years start at $25M. So something like this:

    2014: $18M
    2015: $25M
    2016: $26M
    2017: $27M
    2018: $28M
    2019: $29M
    2020: $30M
    Total: $183M

    King Felix deal makes the Grenike deal look like crap. 1 more year and $28M more, but IMO Felix>>>Greinke.

    Kresh should be lining up for between $190-$200, unless they do a crazy AAS for less years.

    This is a very different situation, this is Felix re-signing in a place we know he wants to be, signing as a free agent is a completely different ballgame. Bigger contracts will almost always come with free agents because you have multiple teams bidding.

    Definitely not Verlander, he'll be 32 when his new deal would kick in, so he is probably looking at a 4 or 5 year deal, but the AAV of it could be in the area of $27M or $28M.

    The Mariners have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent left-hander Joe Saunders, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter link). The contract will become official once Saunders passes a physical. Saunders is represented by Greg Genske.​

    Saunders drew interest from several teams (the Orioles, Padres, Mets, Pirates and Twins) this winter, though the veteran southpaw couldn't find his desired three-year deal. Minnesota offered Saunders a one-year contract and he also reportedly had a two-year, $15MM offer on the table from a mystery team.​

    • Hernandez's extension sets a bar for negotiations between Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers, writes Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, who opines that Kershaw could become the first pitcher to receive a $200MM deal. Kershaw is eligible for free agency after the 2014 season and will only be 27 years old on Opening Day 2015.
