    that’s correct it’s kinda like Ethier later in his career versus lefties. Everyone knew he couldn’t hit lefties, even how hard he tried it worked or not or blah blah. But it’s up to the manager to say “nope, you’re not gonna face lefties”. You’re setting them up for failure

    it’s just ridiculous the team has a very “everyone be versatile” approach yet can’t do this with Kenley. Maybe I’m just dumb, but I do think last night was the end. And if so, that’s great, cause if they really aren’t using him as a closer, that’s the biggest hole we currently have

    I've always said, Roberts wants to still be one of the boys, as he was as a player. He wants to be friends with and appease all his teammates. He hasn't fully embraced the authoritative role - the obligation - that he has to assume as manager. That's why his tendency is to platoon players and give everyone PT and then not rock the boat when an established player in a fixed role like Kenley is no longer able to compete in that capacity. Roberts keeps the clubhouse happy, but it is what I fear will prevent him from leading the team to that elusive championship. Hope he proves me wrong this year.

    So Roberts gets no front office input on how the pitching staff is used?

    That's hardly the MLB model these days.

    The Marlins are just outmatched. The Reds kept their offense in check, just not gonna win if you can’t score anything.

    Congrats to the Astros, second team to punch their ticket to the LCS by beating two teams who hadn't won a playoff series in 18 years and 14 years (before 2020). Also, the Astros become the only sub .500 team to ever make it to the LCS.

    Congrats to the Dodgers, third team to pinch their ticket to the LCS by beating the only 4th place team in MLB history to make the postseason, and a team in the postseason for the first time in 14 years (and with no series wins in 22 years).
