at least cody is closer to where he belongs and i take the PIG 9/10 over kemp agree w max starting and freese late but well, davey
Puig is 1 for 12 against Gio, Kemp is 8 for 24 with 2 HRs. Clearly, Kemp is the right call here - I just hope his bat makes up for anything/everything he costs us in the field. Manny has also had some success against this pitcher, so hopefully 4 and 5 drive in some runs early. 1-3 need to get on in front of them. The key is patience and making him throw strikes. Gio walks about 1 batter every 2 innings, and his K/BB ratio this season was 1.85 to 1 . (In contrast, Kershaw's was 5.34 to 1, and this was a bad BB year by his standards.) Considering that the Dodgers are usually pretty good about taking walks, this is an advantage that they must exploit. Man I wish Muncy was in the lineup. I could see him walking every AB he'd get against Gio. Turner is 2 for 19 against him. But how can one not have faith that JT will figure him out today on this big stage? By the way, THANK YOU Dave for dropping Grandal to 8.
Take the Puig thing up with Diablo and Darth lol. I agree he should never face a lefty. They tried in September to give him opportunities to show he can hit LHP and failed miserably. Racist
To be honest, yeah. Last series, Kershaw was at home with a 1-0 series lead. Today, it's critical that he gets Dodgers off to the right start in this series with a win, on the road, and you know that stadium will be nuts. Better him than the rookie for sure, but then I look at his "vs. batter" numbers and see that Yelich has absolutely feasted on his pitches, which is very worrisome (and that was mostly when Yelich wasn't putting up MVP numbers). Braun has also had moderate success. This will definitely be a test for Kersh. Hopefully he brings his best.
Just a typical over the phone interview. Talked a little bit about pinch hitting but nothing profound.
overstating the obvious but these first two games are huge and tbh, especially for milwaukee brewers have to sweep anything less they give up home field and give us the chance to finish at the ravine a split for us would be cool, but a sweep would put some serious doubt in the brewers heads we're clearly the better team... we just need to show it imo jumping on their starters is paramount can't let them hand it to their pen with a lead go dodgers!
I'll overstate the obvious too. Can't have any 2-on-and-zero-out situations ending with a 0 on the scoreboard. They may have been able to overcome those missed opportunities in the regular season, but now it's critical to cash them in - even if that's in the form of only one run.
totally agree and a lot of it has to be team oriented just move the guy/guys over when needed keep the innings/rallys going not everyone trying to go deep
Me too he’s terrible. But Gio is worse so if we lose it’s hard to imagine it’s not on the offense. Wish we had Muncy in there to take the free walk instead of Kemp swinging over two balls.
We're typically pretty good at running up a starter's pitch count and getting to their pen. Problem is, I don't expect that strategy to work in this game because I think it's Counsel's intention to pull Gio after 3-4 innings anyhow. Their pitching will likely improve once the starter is out. So hopefully instead of grinding pitch counts, we get a walk and then follow it up with a Big Fly, before Gio's short start is up. Then we need to work the relievers' counts whenever possible because that could help us later in the series.
