Maholm being willing for the bullpen is awesome, but the room for him would be weird... Bullpen would be: Kenley, Brian, JP, Wright, Chris Perez, Maholm, and Paco? Withrow to Triple A. Although I'm very, very skeptical on Beckett as a starter. That bullpen would be dope though with Withrow coming in on first moments notice, cause we could use Wright/Maholm in some high leverage situations and not risk losing a long man
Fine, look beyond the W-L record, he SUCKS in NL west stadiums. ERA career in: Col. =7.13 LA =4.50 AZ = 10.80 SD = 4.38 SF = 5.78 Given that Petco & the Ravine are pitcher parks...he sucks. He's gonna get lit up like a bottle rocket.
First, I am quite happy with the move. Look at it this way. We got would could be a decent number four for the fifth spot or mop up. He is left-handed. He is CHEAP. Thus far, Honeycutt and company do not miss when they grab someone as a reclamation project. We tend to do quite well with them. At 31, there is no way that we were the only team in on him. That tells me that he wants to be in LA for whatever reason. He could be looking to pitch well enough to get a multi year deal next year. He could love the idea of going to a contender. He may have been told that Honeycutt found a flaw. He could just want to enjoy the weather. He knows his numbers better than we do. The FO knows his numbers better than we do. Both have to feel that there is something there to even have this conversation and give him a try. It makes no sense otherwise. This is one contract that it almost forces the pitcher to get better. He sucks again and he will be looking for a true minor league deal next year.
The best thing about the deal is the low cost and one year tenure. I hope they use him for the long man in the pen, or at least keep his starts to less than 20. Maybe he will be fine for home games and maybe he'll do OK for road games against the East or Central, but mark my words, he's gonna get his tits lit in NL West away games. I seldom come out and say a player isn't going to do well as a Dodger, as a rule I don't badmouth Dodger players. I hope I'm wrong as hell, I hope I have to eat crow on this one, I hope you all call me names and poke fun of my lack of baseball knowledge...BUT, don't come crying to me when this guy makes you look at Capuano like he was a rib-eye steak smothered in onions. That's all I'm saying.
The key, cbd, is that at 1.5M, if he's not earning his spot on the roster, he will be back in the minors or let go. It's not like League, whose contract basically insured he'd stay regardless of how much he blew.
You are forgetting League. Looks like Paco and Withrow could both start the year in AAA. That is as long as Maholm does not beat out Beckett and/or Beckett goes on the DL
holy crap i did forget about League, lol. But again, it'd be very surprised if everyone on the pitching staff is healthy. It'd be a great problem to have.
Yeah it's looking increasingly likely Paco starts in AAA, which is just crazy. Easy thing to do would be to DL Beckett the first few weeks.
