Seager, Bellinger Puig, Taylor, Forsythe, Kike...dead things. Lifeless.
When your only spark offensively is your pitcher and the oldest guy on the team, on opening day...idk, something smells rotten in Dodger Stadium.
    Literally ad figuratively.
Whatever CK was or wasn't, he still gave up only one run and the bp was fine.
Extremely poor approach at the plate I thought, and Seager and Bellinger look appallingly inept.
    Weak.

I know you're kidding with this, but the Hill i
Yeah, got that too...I just think you get so many shots at something, then, if you just aren't the best, which we weren't, somebody else gets their shot at it. This foregone conclusion that the NLW is ours for the taking is bullshit.
Probably way too much to read into one flaccid, lackluster game, but the odds are getting worse and worse for us as shoe-ins every damn season as time relentlessly passes.
    Get 'em tonight...

Finally, the streak of winning on opening day and losing in the playoffs is OVER!
Which means this year we win the World Series.
    30 years or bust!

The last time we lost on opening day was 2010, which was the year that ended that mini 2008-2009 playoff run and started 3 really shitty years.

Meanwhile, Stanton is already hitting bombs for the Yankees.

The Guggs better know what they are doing.

Disclaimer: This post mentions Game you-know-what 1 time.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I still believe we're easily the favorites to win the division and I don't have concerns about that.

My concern is, like Doyer said, we've already seen the best this roster has to offer and it wasn't enough. Game 7 was a funeral, basically.

I legit feel every key player will be worse this year than they were last year. The only question is how much worse. Hopefully only slightly. I can see Turner, Seager, Kenley, Clayton, and maybe Hill only taking a small step back or staying the same. But Taylor, Bellinger, and Puig are probably in for a nosedive.

I can see improvements from Wood (in terms of durability) Logan (because the bar is so low), and Grandal, but that's about it. The big boys that made 2017 "absolute madness" will decline. Even the fringe guys like Barnes and Kike figure to be worse.

They can pretend in interviews to be ready for another 162, but they're gassed and know just as well as us they blew it.

My other concern is, we picked the wrong time to be elite. If we had this roster back in the mid-2000's when mediocrity could win you a championship, we might have a couple rings. But we're in the era of the superteam. We're in that category for now, but Chicago, New York, Houston, Cleveland, and Washington are all standing between us and our goal.

hope Toles, Verdugo, and Walker (cuz I can't spell byuler) come up and energize this club. And maybe the deadline will bring us a difference maker that helps us compete with the other superteams who've made big moves in the offseason.

yeah watching kike swing at ball 4's and slap at the ball in cleanup while hearing about stanton slugging monster shots wasn't fun

Turner will be an even better hitter. We are hitting peak-HR and have already started to see their value dip.
Big HR hitters are getting signed up late in the process to less than what the market prognosticators imagined, many to 1 year contracts and some super HR hitters even cut from their teams.
We are entering into a high contact era.
Strikeouts have not mattered for years, they are starting to matter again for hitters.
The RBI will make a comeback in relevance.
Turner and Seager will benefit greatly.
Bellinger will cut down on strikeouts even if it means sacrificing some power.
Puig will put up great stats in his walk year.
We added Kemp and if he does not shine there is always Toles who is ready.
Lots of young guys ready to step in after that.

    pisses me off actually
not that they lost to houston, not that they lost to the giants...
but the listless, indifferent, apathetic way they came out yesterday
    look at the 2014 royals...
lost game 7 to the giants, and all you heard all offseason and 2015 was how upset/hungry/motivated they were to get back and win it all...
    which, of course, they did
you could see that fire every time they took the field -- and this from a team with a payroll roughly ⅓ the size of the 2015 dodgers
i saw none of that type of fire yesterday
actually, check that, i did see it... from the giants
sure it's just one game and the lots of championship teams started the season with a loss (including 1988 team)
but who knew the sewage spill the other day would be the 2nd shittiest product on the field this week

Come on, man. You don't appreciate negative prophecies after 1 game? Lol
I mean, you're right, of course, but flushing the season down the toilet after 1 game is just day to day operations here.

Dodgers not giving CK run support. Geez, that never happens.

Kirk Gibson on pre-game "I want to see the Dodgers win the WS this year. I love seeing the tape of '88 but I know those guys in the clubhouse are tired of it. I know it. In Detroit, we were tired of seeing the 60s Tigers tape. Those guys told us to make our own film, and we did. That's what I hope for these guys".

He's a great interview, and I love the change of tune. Now that he's out of the profession, I think he can just sit back and have fun. Such a competitor.
