Dodgers scratch Rich Hill from next start due to blister Associated Press — 27 minutes ago LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Dodgers have scratched Rich Hill from his scheduled start Sunday in the series finale against Colorado because of a blister that forced him to miss a month earlier in the season. The blister also caused Hill to leave a perfect game after seven innings on Sept. 11. Brandon McCarthy will return from a month-long stint on the disabled list with right hip stiffness to replace Hill. Manager Dave Roberts said Hill would start either next Saturday or Sunday at San Francisco, where the NL West leaders conclude the regular season. Hill has been dealing with the blister since before he was acquired Aug. 1 from Oakland in a trade. ''We've put ourselves in the position that we have the flexibility, or luxury, to do this,'' Roberts said. ''With the blister and how we've had to manage it since the trade, I think this gives him the best chance going forward to go deeper in a game.'' Roberts said Saturday that rookie Jose De Leon will start on Tuesday at San Diego, followed by Kenta Maeda on Wednesday. Scott Kazmir might not make another start after leaving Friday's game with right intercostal spasms. Roberts said the left-hander is receiving treatment.
No one goofs on Hill anymore, because he's good right? Just seems like in 2016 they could deal with a blister...obviously, I'm expecting way too much. Guy's out there with a herniated disc, and this blister shit is still a problem...apples and oranges, I know, but it just seems so pussy wrong.
I can't imagine re-signing Hill, this blister stuff is just annoying. Really no reason for him to pitch again until Game 2 of the NLDS. Just shut him down and get him ready for the playoffs.
They are just skipping his start, not so much a scratch, division is in the bag. Save for a tuneup then the Nats
Yeah they aren't scratching him as much as they're shelving him from potentially getting hurt... he'll get a tune up in SF before it's all hands on deck in October. He's not injured.
didn't read between the lines like you guys did after re-reading there's nothing to indicate it's recurred only the nebulous "blister that forced him to miss a month earlier" line makes a lot more sense now and will let me sleep a little better
Well, then basically it's all bullshit and it's just moving things around to get him ready for the post, is it? OK. Great. And there's no blister, either? Aces. Sounds super awesome..no worries at all. I just wonder about two things though...first, why all the lies and the crock of blister shit at all...just say the team is rearranging the rotation for playoff competition. Why make up lies abput physical problems? What's the logic? And second: how do posters know that it's all bullshit in the first place? Secret inside sources?
it's the power of the internet bubba everyone knows everything for a fact because they read it on the internet while surfing as anonymous
Yeah, I know that...but really, isn't the integrity and motives of what's written on the internet ever taken to question...so many examples of just pure fanciful spin that more often than not proves simply to add to the confusion. I guess it's not so important...blisters seem so trivial on this particular day, for sure. But everything is relative. It does seem like such a large portion of what is released by the LAD, " turns out" to be either a smokescreen, a deception, a ruse, or an outright lie. I just can't figure out why...
Precautionary to let the skin have extra time between starts to keep itself healthy. Like taking the dude out during a perfect game. Its no biggie.
A couple of Dodgers beat writers tweeted it was more precautionary and not due to a reoccurrence of the blister. I think it's a good idea as he hasn't looked as sharpe lately, missing badly with some pitches. They aren't saying the blister is back, but when he began missing up and away more and more his last two starts, I got a bit worried. That's been the sign in the past that his finger is irritated, so might as well play it safe and then try to burn him out in the playoffs. I honestly don't know how this shit hasn't healed. You would think that the thing would callous over by now. Whatever the reason is for the issue, have to guess that it has cost Hill a lot of money this off season. Also want to add that I've stepped away from the ledge on this being a bad trade. Even if things don't work out in the PO's with Reddick and Hill, if Rich really taught Kershaw how to differ his arm angle to make him more deceptive, that would be fucking insane. That would be the next step in prolonging a dominant career.
Kershaw won't need that gimmicky crap until he's Hill's age. I'd rather see him work the change into his repertoire more.
