    wait, veterans helping rooks?
    what a concept!

Schebler credits teammates for success at the plate
by Vincent Samperio | Dodgers Nation — 15 minutes ago

While top prospect Corey Seager continues to get the hype (and deservedly so), another Los Angeles Dodgers rookie has also given the team a spark late in the season.

Outfielder Scott Schebler was called up for the second time this season, but his first time, he played in just one game. On Monday night, he delivered a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth that pushed the Dodgers lead from 2-1 to 4-1, providing insurance for Chris Hatcher in the ninth.

It was Schebler’s third home run in nine games since being called up, and came after he started the night with two strikeouts. After the game, he kept it simple in terms of what he was trying to do. “The pitchers were there for us the whole game,” he said. “Clayton [Kershaw] had a heck of a game, so putting some extra runs on the board was nice to give them a little bit of a cushion.”

Schebler said he wanted to relax after his first two at-bats, looking for a pitch up in the zone and he delivered when he got that pitch. The ball was 109 MPH off the bat and traveled 429 feet, displaying the 24-year-old’s raw power.

The rookie then discussed the help he’s gotten from his Dodger teammates. “A.J. [Ellis] has helped me a lot with that [calming down],” Schebler said.

“He told me if you ever get in a moment like that, try to count your breaths. It’s something to slow you down. And all the guys in here have been amazing as far as bringing me in and talking to me, and really teaching me different ways to calm it down because it can snowball very quickly.”

It’s a sign of the type of team that the Dodgers have that the rookies are thanking their veteran teammates for help even while some of the younger players are taking playing time from the veterans.
The roster expansion has proven to be quite a boost to the team, as youngsters like Seager and Schebler have produced.

    Latest On Eddy Julio Martinez
By Steve Adams [September 15, 2015 at 8:01pm CDT]

Top Cuban prospect Eddy Julio Martinez is now a client of Rick Thurman and Rafael Nieves of the Beverly Hills Sports Council, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Martinez, regarded by some as the top free agent on this year’s international market, has flown under the radar of late after generating quite a bit of buzz late in the spring and early this summer. It’s been written on multiple occasions that the 20-year-old center fielder is expected to command a bonus in excess of $10MM. That, of course, means that a signing team would be penalized with a 100 percent luxury tax for every dollar spent over its league-allotted international bonus pool. His signing team would also be unable to sign an international free agent for more than $300K in either of the next two signing periods, although changes to the CBA following the 2016 season could impact those rules.

As MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reported last night, the Reds have joined the Martinez market and will host a private workout for him later this week. The Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, Astros and Rangers have all been linked to Martinez at various times as well. As Sanchez noted in his free scouting report, Martinez has a compact and powerful stroke plus the ability to hit home runs to all fields. His speed gives him base-stealing upside, and he should be able to remain in center field thanks to good range in the gaps and an accurate throwing arm. Heyman spoke to several scouts today, with one praising Martinez’s considerable pop and multiple calling him a solid prospect. An eight-figure deal is still the expectation for Martinez, Heyman hears.

It's about fuckin time for a resolution here :bored:

Greinke is such a great compliment to Kershaw. I hope they re-sign this guy and then try to sign or trade for a soild #3. I know Anderson has been that this season but I doubt this FO will offer more than a QO. Even that might not happen. I hope these two carry us through the 2015 post-season and we finally get a god dang shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip!!! :D

I didn't realize this, but Cespedes is putting up Manny type numbers for the Mets right now; yes, those Manny numbers which happened after he was traded to us from Boston.

    WOW!!!!

Kendrick will test his hamstring by running Wednesday and could be activated as soon as Friday, depending how he feels after running.

Starting next season, the Dodgers figure to play Seager exclusively at shortstop. Though president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman values positional versatility, the team thinks Seager is a good enough shortstop that he can handle the position on a daily basis and give them an impact bat from a position that is typically light on offense.

"He's got great hands and a great clock, as far as handling the position," Mattingly said. "Either place, he's going to be fine. The biggest question with Corey was never, 'Can he play shortstop?' It was, 'He's 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. Is he going to get bigger and grow off short?'"

Last time I looked he was doin about a 180 OPS+. Just absurd.

He was also doin about a 130 OPS+ with the Tigers, which is nothin to sneeze at.

I think that if he finishes the season healthy, he might get an offer in the 3 year range. I think he's worth that.

Thing is... he's actually not putting up really close to Manny's offensive numbers.

    Manny: .499 wOBA 210 wRC+
    Cespedes: .428 wOBA 179 wRC+

Rooting for Dee to take over the BA lead and keep it...in his case, what else is there besides individual awards?
Hope he tops Bryce, who will probably get the HR thing and MVP.
Seriously, fuck Arrennado, especially after the other night...on multiple levels.

The way the Cubs fans collectively bullied Steve Bartman, I hope they never win a World Series.

The AL West is just silly.

The A's sell off Addy Russell, Cespedes, Donaldson and company cause A's...crazy enough all that probably makes more sense than anything else that's happened in that division.

The Halos fall flatter than a SOB after leading the world in wins last year.

Seattle is picked by many to make it to the WS and they fail.

The " 2017 WS Champion " Astros take control of the division out of nowhere and cough it up with a couple weeks left.

The Rangers lose Darvish and Holland, Adrian Beltre plays like shit for much of the year, trade for Hamilton and Hamels, get rollin and come back from the dead on the back of a zombie Prince Fielder.

damn he reach for a ball in the stands while other fans did the same thing. It's is totally his fault that the Cubs bullpen couldn't get two freaking outs, instead giving up the lead. Or how about that SS who booted the inning ending DP ball? Bartman was just a bad cop out.

Exactly. Dusty Baker said something that kind of pulls on your heart strings a bit. "This guy woke up that morning happy as ever that he was going to see his favorite team play...not knowing that when he got home that night his life would never be the same". Sad. He was listening to the broadcast on his headphones so you know he was a big fan who loved the game.

Cubs fans were throwing beer on him and yelling out death threats. Despicable. I know Dodger fans wouldn't do that. For all the crap we seem to get.

Even after the fact when it was clear it wasn't his fault they bag on him.

    Hope they never win.
