I also wonder if this means we become active in trade talks with the Brewers again? With Ryu making the rotation, McCarthy becomes somewhat expendable. McCarthy + Puig offset Braun's salary for two years. We probably also have to throw in a high-end spec (but not a top spec) to make it happen - and the FO seems more open to trading high-end specs now that the farm is healthy.

Andy didn't say that he could be held back, that was my own presumption if they're worried about him getting really screwed up at the plate. If he OPS's at .800, you have to believe that they would be thrilled. The only reason it is in the .780's right now are the HR's he had earlier in spring that gave him a bit of jump in the category. Shit, him with an .800 OPS has to be a 4+WAR player and you are damn right we are good with that.

I honestly don't know what is going to happen there. The rumors are that Braun is not happy in Milwaukee and he wants to be traded. MLB radio had a couple different shows this morning where they talked about him. One of which said that they've heard he wants to play for only one team and he is pissed that the trigger wasn't pulled last year. We've seen both sides of the reports, one said they were far apart and others that say they were close. This guy said that Braun was under the impression the deal was complete and he was on his way to LA. Not sure where this guy heard it, but he seemed confident. The league is scared about Braun to LA for a Puig/McCarthy package as that would make the Dodgers offense arguably the best in baseball with a pretty scary front 3 rotation in the playoffs as well. I'm getting more on board with this deal, but not sure how they get it done as the Dodgers do have leverage in that Braun can say, "I go to LA or I don't waive my no-trade". McCarthy now may have the upper hand over Wood, as Wood got shelled today.

People also forget just how good he was in both of his first two season. He posted over 10 WAR combined and then the injuries crept up and he has never been the same. Sox announcers even mentioned it yesterday about just how fun he was to watch. It'd be really nice if suddenly it all just clicked again, but it is getting farther and farther less likely.

he had zero pressure/expectations back then
    he played free and easy
just went out and had fun
now he's under the microscope... every day
    he seems stressed
doesn't look like he's having fun
thinking too much instead of just doing what used to come naturally
he needs to seek crash davis' advice... "out of your head meat"

You should isolate Puig's numbers vs them instead.

The Braun chase was like a last resort type of thing for LAD..just basically making lemons out of Puig lemonade.
I mean LAD wasn't even going to do that swap without adding another of their shitty contracts to the deal and MIL wasn't super-sold on Puig either/looking for other prospects as well in return.
It was like trading ass juice for pussy juice.." we'll take your problems..you take ours. "
Braun can hit, but he's just not really that hot a get with all the trouble attached to him..his no trade clause, his big contract as an aging OFer.
And we're basically another year down the road, so other developments have taken shape since..a talented Trayce has gotten healthy, Toles continues to show the talent that made him one of Tampa's top specs, and of course Bellinger (who's more than likely still an option for late June/July call up) is creeping.
Puig can go for a couple hand picked/slept on prospects and help replenish some of the backend depth lost..it's nothin.

put kiké on the dl regardless of what the xrays reveal
culberson and [especially] taylor have earned the nod, at least to start the season
they've also been in camp with the team all spring
let kiké rest and get healthy
we saw what he looked like last year trying to play while gimpy

Kiké Hernandez sent for x-rays on wrist
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 20 minutes ago

When the Los Angeles Dodgers opened camp it was understood the club would look to settle on backup shortstop prior to Opening Day of the 2017 regular season. The competition figured to be comprised of Charlie Culberson, Kiké Hernandez and Chris Taylor.

It was interrupted in some sense by Hernandez electing to join Team Puerto Rico for the 2017 World Baseball Classic. While he was away from the Dodgers, Culberson and Taylor continued to put their best foot forward.

Taylor also began to receive time in center field, which in some regard neutralized an advantage Hernandez may have held.

Since returning from the WBC, Hernandez has started four games, all at shortstop. He was in the lineup for Tuesday’s split-squad game against the Cincinnati Reds. Hernandez finished 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch in the Dodgers’ 9-3 loss.

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the utility man was sent for x-rays on his right wrist:

    Ken Gurnick ✔@kengurnick
Enrique Hernandez is having x-rays after being hit by a
pitch on the right wrist in the sixth inning.
    4:17 PM - 28 Mar 2017

Over 11 Cactus League games, Hernandez has 10 hits, including three doubles, in 32 at-bats. He’s walked four times, compared to six strikeouts. Should the 25-year-old have sustained any sort of injury that impacts his availability for Opening Day, it may cement Taylor making the active roster.

Taylor has had a superior spring than Culberson, and is already on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. Though, that currently sits at 39 players, which would make adding Culberson relatively seamless.

Hernandez attempted to play through injury last season and scuttled, finishing the year batting a lowly .190/.283/.324 with eight doubles, seven home runs and 18 RBI in 109 games.
