Fuck that, and it is nothing against Shelby Miller, because he is preety damn good, and young, but there is absolutely no damn reason to create a hole on your team by not keepimg someone like Zack and filling it by having to give up valuable assets for someone like Shelby Miller.

A player like Joc is sabermetric spank-bank material. I doubt our front office finds a trade partner that values Joc more than we do, and therefore I'd be very surprised if he gets traded. Joc isn't going anywhere just because of the type of player he is.

It wouldn't be a one or the other scenario, it probably would be both, whether it's Greinke or Price and Miller/Carrasco/Salazar (and probably other similar guys in play) none of these guys are making any real money yet.

the nerds have already said they're going to be cutting payroll
so i wouldn't be surprised if we not only didn't re-sign zack, but also missed on price
i totally agree with building/rebuilding the farm system to be self-sufficient, i just feel pulling back now (on spending) is a bit premature
especially since they're so close -- essentially one good #3 away if they retain zack
and i mean its not like the dodgers are struggling to make ends meet
plus signing either/or/both would not cost you any (existing) prospects so it wouldn't hurt the farm

we've, at times, been referred to as the yankees west
would those late 90's/early 2000's yankees have passed on either greinke or price?
no, they would have signed them both
and before anyone goes with a "yeah, but where are they now?" response, i'll tell you...
[numerous WS appearances/championships later] it has nothing to do with the dodgers/guggenheim direction
keep stocking the farm while you try to build a championship team

carrasco and/or shelby miller are nice, but not as #2's
if you want to make a splash and [apparently] aren't that high on puig/joc
put something together for sonny gray
    maybe joc/urias
    idk
    venting

Don't you see the writing on the wall? Do not be shocked when we don't sign Greinke or Price or Cueto or Zimmermann and hire Kaplar.

@chrabe: Andy Van Slyke on STL radio: "Highest paid player on the Dodgers told GM, you gotta get rid of Puig." Kershaw? "Didn't say his name." Uhh...

    Bye bye Puig

I don't know about the writing on the wall, but I know math. They said around 200MM and they currently stand at 152MM. I see Kapler as a factor in them probably getting Price. It's mostly about who they replace Puig with in RF for me.

Thought I would never say this, but if CK and Greinke don't like Puig, and you can get a SP or a great BP middle reliever, go for it...trade his ass.

    I know.....racist.

200-152=48-30 going to Arb players (Jansen, Hatcher, Avilan, Ellis, Turner, Grandal, Nicasio, SVS etc) that leaves 18. If you consider 200 a hard number, that's the situation, however, it doesn't account for the money they will likely save trading Ethier and/or Crawford and/or Puig.

Apparently this is actually misleading as Eric Stephen of TBLA actually listened to the audio of it and he said that is what the top paid.player on the Dodgers should do, not what he did

Right, so then you're back close to that 48 number. That's really enough to work with even if 200 is a hard number

hopefully it's a prelude to resigning zack
it's no secret they're not friends
maybe he demanded it as a condition of coming back

Nah, I am thinking AVS is referring to Kershaw, at the risk of misinterpreting it again, here is what Andy actually said:

"When the best player, the highest paid player on the team goes to the GM and is asked what is the number one need or what are the needs of the Los Angeles Dodgers club, the first thing you need to do is get rid of Puig. That’s all you need to know."

If they made Crawford a $5M/yr player (2 years) I think someone would take him, Ethier at about $9M/yr and obviously their would be no salary retention with Puig. That said, I don't think all 3 would be moved, at most 2.
