he's smooth and gets to just about everything. his arm is accurate and his throws have decent pop

just like a reliable bullpen, a defense behind a pitcher adds security. i still wonder about our staff's confidence in AJ Ellis behind the plate and ability to handle tough pitches. Martin, i believe, would open up a new lane for the staff with his defensive abilities.

the question seems to be more about his potential power at the plate..he's 215lbs now, but as he grows ( and if they allow him to) he could get up to 230-240lbs pretty easily just by virtue of him being 6'4'' with an athletic build. the pros and cons have to be weighed i supposed..i mean..at 230-235lbs Seager might well be a 30-35HR guy at his peak. but it's such a big jump in weigh that maybe they're fine with letting everything happen with him naturally and not tryin to force anything on him.

I put a 60 on it which equates to about 25-32 homers. Don't think there is any more than that unless you think he's a superstar

my bad..i was moreso tying his potential to grow into his future position in the field. just saying that if he grows to be 230-235lbs and that becomes his peak form at the plate with that extra power..then it might make sense to get him some early work @ 3B and get that experience behind him. kinda like you said..that he should end up being a great 3rd baseman. but really there's no need to rush him to that spot..maybe they think SS is a better training ground to sharpen his skills and that 3B will be a piece of cake for him.

Padres Lose Jackson To Dodgers On Waivers
By Steve Adams [November 3, 2014 at 5:59pm CST]

The Padres announced today that infielder Ryan Jackson has been claimed off waivers by the Dodgers.

The 26-year-old Jackson will present a utility infield option for his new club. He has scant major league experience, but owns a .274/.344/.369 slash in over 1,000 plate appearances at the Triple-A level and comes with a good defensive reputation at short. Jackson missed most of 2014 after undergoing wrist surgery.

3rd base is obviously an easier position to learn/be good at. strong arm? check. accurate arm? check. athleticism? check. smooth glove? check. he'll fit just fine when they need him there

no doubt. continuing with the thought that Puig could get moved..say if Javier Baez were the centerpiece of the returning package, how do you think that'd work out between Baez and Seager? from what i can tell, Baez has plenty of range @ short and a pretty good arm, but he's not nearly as smooth or polished as Seager is in the field. is it another potential Hanley situation?..where we dread a Baez's eventual move to 3B? or would they move Baez to 2B kinda like the Cubs are looking to do?

i know you're aware that Dee got a good amount of work in CF in the Dominican league last winter..you think it'd be a smooth transition for him if they asked Dee to switch from 2B and take over in CF (with Joc taking over in LF)?

or do you think it's possible that Theo would move Addy Russell for Puig? if it's Addy Russell that Friedman gets for Puig, i suppose Seager can start getting work at 3B at that point. if Friedman does move Puig it's gonna be highly important to build a big market for him..certain teams are gonna come poking around to find out what happened and why the Dodgers are looking to move on from him and shit. i assume some of the league probably already knows about his escapades.

jesse sanchez is dope, nice dude and knows his stuff. all 30 teams will be in attendance... so we'll just have to wait and find out.

sorta kinda a scouting report on him from fangraphs (fuck them but this isn't bad)

"Moncada is 19 and packs a lot of tools into his 6’1/210 frame. He’s a plus-plus runner with above average raw power from both sides of the plate and the tools/skills to stick in the infield, possibly at shortstop. Moncada is the quick-twitch type with big bat speed that clubs covet and his track record of hitting at big tournaments and in Cuba’s professional leagues is excellent considering his age. Ben Badler has even more details about how he’s performed in specific tournaments if you can’t get enough of this stuff.

So, this sounds great. We have a guy that scouts say has talent like Yasiel Puig and he’s a switch-hitting teenage shortstop. Why haven’t I heard more about him yet? Shouldn’t he be the top story on MLB Trade Rumors every day with teams offering over $100 million?

There are two reasons this hasn’t happened yet. First, due to his lack of pro experience and his age, Moncada is subject to international bonus pools, along with the 16-year-old July 2nd prospects you hear about once a year. Secondly, it’s confirmed that Moncada isn’t in Cuba, but nobody knows exactly where he is (Mexico is a common guess).

If you followed Puig’s defection story, you know how shady things can get when human/drug traffickers see a way to make money. It’s assumed by people in the international baseball industry that Moncada is at some juncture in the same process that Puig was in and that Moncada will be “found” once the right people get paid, which could be any day or much longer. It may not be pretty, but this is what elite Cuban baseball players have to do to get paid these days."

Yankees Unlikely To Pursue Top Starters, Sandoval
By Steve Adams [November 4, 2014 at 8:47am CST]
While many have been quick to connect the Yankees to the top names on the market, as is the case in most offseasons, Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News hear that the team has no intention to pursue any of the “Big Three” starting pitchers — Max Scherzer, Jon Lester and James Shields — or top third baseman Pablo Sandoval.
Instead, the Daily News duo continues, the Yankees are more focused on bringing back a pair of their own free agents: Chase Headley and Brandon McCarthy. The team loves Headley’s glove at third base and views the returning Alex Rodriguez as more of a DH candidate at his age, per Feinsand and Madden. The team could act quickly and aggressively to retain the two. (MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes pegged Headley for a four-year, $48MM contract while I predicted a three-year, $36MM deal for McCarthy.) The Yankees, per the report, don’t want to add any more $100MM+ contracts to their books, although the name of Hanley Ramirez, who figures to top the century mark, is curiously absent from the list of players they won’t be pursuing.

interesting. Hanley loves Jeter and NY..he may take a deal that actually makes sense to play there. 5yrs/75M??..4yrs/60M??

I don't think Hanley will get a $100MM + contract, there are too many injuries and question marks about his position. I do think he makes more sense in the AL, and wouldn't be one bit surprised if he signs with the Yankees.
