i will say this..now that we're stuck with Mattingly, i hope they make the job as easy as possible for the dummy. like for instance..having him make late game decisions on whether or not to pull Hanley..let's X that out and put a 9 inning shortstop in there, so Mattingly can sit the fuck down. and then having a Puig, who's ridiculously talented, but has a star's persona that's even bigger than his talent..X that out as well. but not only do you do these things for Mattingly..you moreso get the environment ready for Seager..because he's set to be our Jeter.

wish i could like this post more than once
and the "supposed great management of egos" or "player's manager" mantra translates (at least to me) that he pretty much lets them get away with everything
not saying you have to be a dick or drill sergeant (i know, redundant), but if you're not willing to rise up every once in a while and let everyone know who's in charge, they will never -- EVER -- respect you
and i honestly believe that's the case

I'd be shocked if Seager breaks spring with the team, and I'm not sure I'd even want him too even with a great spring. (if he even gets a major league invite lol)

better yet, get him the fuck out of here
can't have his dumb hayseed ass hampering joc or seager's growth
wouldn't mind at all if they replaced him with wallach, at least for the time being

btw, i laughed my ass off at the "for the dummy" part

if he were to break into the league as a shortstop do you think that would render Arrubuena useless? I like the idea of having that glove up the middle. Would having a young Seager and historically inconsistent Gordon up the middle defensively make the Dodgers trigger shy to the idea of giving Seager the SS job?

How fluent is Seager at SS? Footwork? Transfer? Arm? Coming in on balls? Throwing off balance? Turning double plays? Range?

I really want to give a defense - first approach a try. I want to see what impact it would make. Like Brandon Crawford always killing our rallies. Or Simmons last year for ATL.

Going from AJ-Hanley-Dee-Kemp/Puig as your line of defense up the middle to Martin-Arrubuena-Dee-Joc would be a vast improvement. What any player lacks they would at least make up for in athleticism. Can't say that when AJ and Hanley are up the middle.

the last thing we all want is for Seager ( and Joc and Urias to an extent) to be tossed into a toxic clubhouse..because at that point they'd be gambling with the farm..something they said they wouldn't do.

Puig, IMO, you really have to wonder if he can be controlled and that goes further than Mattingly's abilities. because think about it..the slightest words from Yadi Molina and a brushback pitch sent Puig spiraling. he's a 5 tool player, but the tool between his 2 ears is absent more times than not. it's just not very strong.

if we could combine Seager's even keeled persona and maturity with Puig's talent..we might have a player on the level of a young Albert Pujols.

my eyewitness report on him. everything about this is still relevant, except I'd probably just put a 60 on his hit tool

Very soft hands; gobbles up easy opportunities; glove is above-average; moves with grace and athleticism; no wasted movements in any direction; very good balance; range dependent on first step; average range at the moment; could be a very good 3rd baseman in a few years; fits at shortstop for the foreseeable future.
