We always wondered why Stan Kasten doesn't like to give no-trade clauses, this is it.

It’s eactly what Bowden said, they’re talking, but not close to one another in terms. Another thing Bowden said is there is also some belief that the Marlins will hold on to him if he does say “only Dodgers” and their offers aren’t returning top flight prospects. We shall see, nobody really has a clue what is happening with the Marlins FO as the new group is said to be much more tight lipped.

It’s especially bad for a team like Miami, who was almost guaranteed to trade him.

I expect the Dodgers to drag this out. There’s little incentive for us to rush a deal, it’s not holding us up on anything else.

marlins are under the impression they have leverage
    they're mistaken
but when stanton begins rejecting every trade to any place not la and they have to start paying that $295MM...
that's when shit will get serious
and that's when we will have all the leverage

To play devil’s advocate just a little: if the Dodgers want to dump a bad contract on Miami, like Kazmir, so that the 2018 salaries are a wash, then Miami might not feel rushed to make a deal before the season starts.

This is just my own assumption, but from reading the tea leaves, I believe that Giancarlo has nixed the deals to the Giants and/or Cardinals. The parameters have now "been agreed to" for too long for nothing more to have come out. Olney is saying by his silence that he may have just chosen not to respond. I could be wrong, but this would be nice if true.

Mike Minors deal is 3 years at $28M with the chance to start. If he is not used as a closer or starter, this would be the highest AAV deal for a non starter in MLB history. Would guess that we can kiss Morrow goodbye.

Have we? Very few thought Stanton would play hardball.
Cocksucking Loria would've folded a while ago.
But again, Jeter is going to take the L here anyway.

Stanton treating this as his free agency, good for him. Good for us.
Had to have been an easy decision for him, given that they tried to bully him into playing ball

If Miami is set on not taking any bad contracts I could see this being revisited next offseason.

Best part of that article: "This team has made more bad contracts disappear than the shredder at 725 Fifth Avenue."

    yes, i know
and i've been saying that since day one
the longer it goes the more it favors us/stanton
our guys are under no pressure to get this done promptly
and the problem with waiting if you're miami...
we're going to be the only team giancarlo approves
our trade proposals aren't going to get any better... they'll get worse
miami can choose to pay $29.5MM (with our offer) for one year or the next 10
    up to them

Giants GM Bobby Evans says that they have in fact agreed to terms on a deal for Stanton who was at the meeting with them last week. They are just waiting for his approval which appears to be the only thing holding all of this up.

There is no reason to believe that Stanton would not waive his no trade if he liked the situation he was coming into.
The Giants are going to paint him a very rosy picture. The players and city will try to woo Stanton. Players like that.
The Dodger fans are too full of hubris on this one.
The team must meet or exceed what the Giants are offering if Stanton is important to them.
And if he is not important to them then why would Giancarlo sign with them?

and he's not going to get it
only way that happens is if the nerds were to say they're out, which isn't going to happen
have to imagine there's been some communication behind the scenes between the dodgers and stanton/his reps
probably something to the effect of... "we want you [homo], but this could take a while... are you okay with that?"
and while stanton isn't just trolling the giants and cards, they're clearly both back-up plans
i see stanton starting the season in miami...
jeter & co will try and make it miserable for him
but, really, who's paying the $29.5MM?
it'll happen... maybe between now and the deadline, maybe at the deadline or maybe not until next offseason
    but it will happen
