The Angels may not reach current Dodger stature but one local writer things they are on their way.

If only we could clean our mess up this easily.

Maybe James had too much of Arte's bargain beer? :)

I'm an outlander...but it seems to me, the Angels have just launched themselves into some kind of stratosphere they were not previously in over the skies of LA. Dat's a Fact, Jack.
The Dodgers are the Dodgers, and no team has meant as much to BB as the Dodgers have, but it's all in the traditions and what they did in the past.
In this new BB world, they could very easily fall to second place over a single player, considering who it is. They definitely will put assses in the seats like never before, and they really didn't have a problem in that respect anyway....just a smaller stadium.
With the hate for Frank at it's foaming- at- the- mouth peak, Arte Moreno (who always reminded me of a shady used car salesman), will be lionized to iconic status.
As a NJ resident, playing second fiddle to NY, even when the pro football teams play their games in your state (and put NY preceding their nicknames--where else do you have anything like that going on in pro sports?), is just something you have to live with.
It's up to a Branch Rickey type innovator to do something Jackie-like to restore the former glory now...I say the Break the Sex Barrier. LAD with the first woman player. After all, we have Ned,,,there's half the battle won!
Maybe we've even done it already with certain players, but don't realize it?

This is saddening. I would have liked CJ Wilson as a dodger. Wtf man, he and kuroda are better than everyone we signed....combined

    this is bad

the old mexican dodger fans will always be loyal
they wont just go become angels fans because of this
    but... really, thats nothing
their kids will flock to the angels
not all of them, but enough
in a decade or so its going to be really bad
moreno knows what the demographics are for the state and what they look like going forward

the suburban upper middle class white orange county angels fan of old was not going to be a sustainable user base going into the futures
simple math will tell you that
but smart people are the ones who see the obvious before the rest of us do
thats how tuned out our minds are most of the time because of all the problems any random person has to deal with on a day to day basis
the white fan will slowly diminish in numbers as the states demographics become more and more hispanic

besides, the white fan will continue to stay angels fans even if they leave anaheim
there was and will continue to be much white flight from the dodgers
its being going on for decades now
before mccourt and way before the beating of the giants fan
but that really made things move
a large part of the strike was the fact that white people and suburban families of whatever race no longer felt comfortable at dodgers games
so the angels will of course benefit from that as they have spent decades cultivating one of the most family friendly atmospheres in all sports
they are still a disney type organization in terms of their image

the dodgers are in raiders territory now basically imagewise
or just a few more stupid incidents from getting there
so going all in with this strategy is exactly what he needed to do to fulfill his goals
    double down on the brown

how bout this for a scary thought...

moreno decides to move the angels to a new state of the art stadium built by the staples center/farmers field people with all that cash and experienced building stadiums and owning sports teams worldwide
turns the marketing away from the anaheim/orange county history its had for years and goes somewhat retro to the time when the angels where in los angeles and the name angels was not representative of some disney movie because the team was once owned by the company but instead represented the founding spiritual heritage of this town and its direct and literal name meaning the city of angels

the angels could position themselves as the team of the city of angels, the los angeles angels baseball club
retro but at the same time completely modern in every way
almost a new franchise/expansion team but with a built in history that would never feel awkward or foreign at all because of the distinct and unique history of the team, where its played, and the relative expansive style that is southern california as almost one large spread out circular city/state spread out over the desert like in antiquity

    the los angeles angels

it has a great ring to it
    the marketing will be powerful
    the team will be strong
their coaching and front office will probably be filled with former dodgers and angels
    the parking will be better
    the amenities unrivaled
    the fans...

frank mccourt and bud selig cannot fuck up this sale to the dodgers
whats next... the clippers end up with a team of dwight howard, deron williams, and blake griffin? (they have all the cap space and bunch of young talent to trade and now players actually want to come play for the clippers... the mayan calendar was right!)

The overreaction to the Angels "taking over LA" is unbelievable. They've bought bigtime free agents before and they've remained second fiddle.

A year from now after the Dodgers set a franchise attendance record and Pujols mysteriously loses 45 lbs and hits .260 with 15 HRs, we'll have a good laugh about this.

i remember reggie jackson, i was a kid but i remember a bit
but look at what the dodgers were at the time
even with reggie jackson the dodgers were something the angels could not touch

    but now?
after a generation or two have grown up with teh dodgers being pretty much shitty?
going back since the time of reggie jackson coming to the angels we have had that one 88 world series
that in all reality we all know in our hearts was a fluke in terms of our talent on the field
it was one of those team of destiny type of situations
the reality was that we were not a championship organization
it was proven year after year after year following that
and we havent been a championship organization all this time since
not even close to be honest

and in that time the angels have made HUGE strides
    and now with this...
they have a new reggie jackson

this new reggie jackson home run king world series multiple champion with one of the more storied franchises in the sport has come to the angels to again try and topple the dodgers in the eyes of the fans
the not originally from los angeles dodgers by the way...
thats a marketing avenue that they will drive down, eventually

the dodgers were able to hold back the first reggie jackson, but this one is going to be much tougher because our organization is a shadow of its former self and currently completely rudderless at sea with a leader readying his escape submarine full of gold and a hapless first mate in charge of making sure the ship stays afloat with as many band aid fixes as possible

that does not inspire a lot of hope
    i want to be wrong

my take and i could be wrong.
albert slumped almost exactly the same time manny got suspended.
i think he was on a similar program and managed to avoid detection the second half of last year.
the swing in performance was dramatic as he suddenly "found" his swing again.
i think this contract blows up in the angels and alberts face and hamstrings the franchise.

i think we all know the angels will always play second fiddle in LA. what annoys me about these signings is they are doing everything they can to get to the world series, while we are stuck in limbo with Ned doing these ridiculous signings. i know we can't do anything without an owner at the moment, but hell, we're the fucking dodgers. we don't sign backups to start.

I would love to have Pujols, don't get me wrong - but he slumped at the beginning of last season and then after an injury rehab he was back to his old self? His rehab likely had some legal steroid medications to help him recover. Did that give him the boost he needed? Or perhaps a mask for something else? Hard not to think about when the dude looks like he's straight out of 1998.

I agree. It's really just a reminder of what we should be doing. But patience is key right now. The less contracts Ned dishes out right now, the better.

2 guys for what HiKu's salary would have been not a good thing? Minus those signings and we have CK, an inconsistent Bills, a guy we wanted out of town the 1st half, a 28 year old journeyman and a rookie with this mediocre offense?

Put your pride away guys, just as in politics you have the hardcore democrats and republicans that will never switch parties but its the independents that win elections.

The Dodgers will maintain their base, as will the Angles but face reality the Angles have the edge now. They are better than us, sad but true. Nostalgia is only good for so much. They have a great rotation, the best RH hitter in a generation and good pieces in other places.

I love the Dodgers as much as the next guy here but I can admit it, the Angles are the superior team and have all but taken over LA's independent baseball fans.

The Angles are a cheaper ticket, parking, food, beer, etc...easier in and out of the stadium, and is seen as safer than DS.

Now you add Albert, and I feel sorry for anyone who can't see the forest for the trees. This is the deathblow that they have been working on.

No one is excited about who we have signed this year, can you say the same about who the Angles have signed? Hell I hate that fucking team and its douchebag fans but I am more willing to go see them play next year than the Dodgers.

^You don't think price hikes aren't coming in Anaheim? It's not the current Dodgers team fault that they built the stadium in a ravine as opposed to next to freeways but otherwise I agree.

i doubt i will go to see the angels unless its interleague and the dodgers are in, but all the rest of the stuff is right on the spot with what i believe the reality to be
then again i drive right past angels stadium at least once a week
