After the game, Mattingly was asked about the [Ethier] blowup...
    • “There’s nothing there other than he was mad about the ump’s call. Thought he missed a call there. I was trying to settle him down — I didn’t want him thrown out of the game,” Mattingly said. “Andre was pretty emotional. It was nothing more than trying to settle him down. He’s maybe yelling at me because I’m trying to settle him down. There’s nothing between us.”
yeah, not sure i believe that...

Sabermetrics don't believe in leadoff hitters. I think it would be beneficial to look at players better suited to "manufacture" runs in general, but I'm more concerned with that as a whole 1-8. "Leadoff hitter" is just a label, like "Closer". It's important to have players who know how to fill those roles when their number is called, but one designated guy for that role is not important. The only inning you can guarantee your leadoff hitter actually leads off is the first inning -- which is also the inning where you should be the least concerned with manufacturing a single run (as opposed to trying to get multiple runs).

So leadoff hitter... I don't care about it.

It's suppose to be random. The random is what makes it great.

Yeah BUT... a petulant outburst against Blue is pointless and it KILLS dugout mojo... as it did last night

Ethier was lucky to get the dink RBI in the first and swung like a girl on all the 2 strike counts thereafter IMO

Inexcusable to have an argument publically during a prime time post season game. Bad fucking karma, man...you can call it hippie shit, mojo swing, whatever...but it was real and tangible.
Amateur bullshit and both deserve to be jettisoned asap. Ask Rick Sutcliffe...he knows. Old school, however.
Again, we wallow in poor leadership, and shit rolls downhill.

    And ...
    Totally a team loss.

    All members shared responsibility.
    Kiki left 4 on
    Grandal left 3 on
    Seager left 3 on

but no one was innocent except perhaps Turner.

Who should have been playing 3rd base in the 4th instead of some cockameemie shift scheme where no one defends 3rd.

Hard to win one run games when you spot the other guy a run.
