Arroyo as a 5th starter, great. Arroyo as a 4th starter, ummm.... I'd have been totally fine with Arroyo if we had not already gotten Haren, but I do not like the idea of him being first in line after Ryu. I hope the talk about Arroyo is one of those, "see, we have other options!" things some GM's do to scare agents.

No way! Nick Punto is scrappy; and we let him walk away for a $1MM salary increase.

If Dodgers sign Arroyo, that'll tell me that management's confidence in either a Beckett or CBills comeback is virtually nonexistent, that Fife's window of opportunity as a major leaguer has shut, and that Lee and Stripling are nowhere near ready.

arroyo and haren were #1 and #2 in nl hr's allowed in 2013, 32 and 28 (respectively)

by comparison, kershaw (11), greinke (13), and ryu (15) gave up 21 less

I don't think young and SVS would be competing for roster spot.

I'll take Youngs history over any other of our alternatives history. AGAIN it's a 1 year deal and he'll be here the entire year. If you are happy with Sellers and/or Dee then so be it, but don't make an argument based upon what happened in less than 2 months or a dislike for a player.

Arroyo isn't going to get a multi year deal unless someone is desperate. Most teams are waiting for the Sushi to drop. Once he signs, all of the other FA pitchers will be grabbed like old Giants garbage out of Ned's favourite dumpster.

I don't think so. The playoffs are what it's all about. You are a veteran player and you are given multiple chances with runners on base? This is no time to bury your performance in a small sample size, right? You must come up and make things happen. You choke and then fuck you - go find another team to do that with. Why give you another chance? Can you trust someone like this again in that kind of situation? I think not. The guy blew it and I don't want him on the team again.

(Of course, nothing personal D8 - I'm just having some fun here :D ).

I've always found this an interesting argument.

It's all about the playoffs? Don't you have to get there first?

By and large, A-Rod sucks pond water in the playoffs, but there is no denying he plays a big part in getting his team in them. Then there are other players who win play off or WS MVP's that are below average in the regular season.

Jose Fukkin Offerman is 6th on the career playoffs BA list. In all of baseball. I swear.

So some stars suck in the postseason and some sucks star in the postseason.

Practically the entire team stuggled in the playoffs. A potentially good Young is a hell of a sight better than Dee or Sellers or the potential of Guerrero. I suppose you naysayers fully supported re-signing Uribe. What's the harm? :gah:

HA HA HA - batting average? The guy came to us late in the season. And he was to be that guy off the bench - that veteran presence - to be brought out during the playoffs for that extra special at bat. And there it was - the Michael Young situation - men on base and he came up and CHOKED. More than once. He choked again and again. He was a double play machine. Damn, I wish he'd have hit .150, you know? PLEASE, JUST ONE FUCKING HIT! But NOOOOO!!! He missed his Kirk Gibson moment, all right. MORE THAN ONCE. Sellers or Dee couldn't have done any worse. (Maybe equaled it, but not worse). The biggest games of the year and, shucks, he just came up fucking empty. Does he have nightmares about it? I hope he hasn't slept a wink all winter. Maybe he'll wake up in Houston or some such place. I think that's baseball hell, isn't it?

that's just it...Young was brought in late to do something that he'd never done before. Young is a career long starter...he was a starter when the Dodgers picked him up and yet he still walked into a situation, late in the season no less, where he wasn't gonna get the same kind of playing time and he hit .314 with us anyway. if you patiently sat around and waited for Uribe to make good on his deal...why can't Michael Young have a spring training and full season to get comfortable with a role that he's unfamiliar with and do so on the cheap? yeh, i'm gonna ask us not to become a bastardly fan base here...i know we have the money now, but lets also try to be fair.

Young can fill in at basically every position in the infield in spot situations...he doesn't strike out a shit load of times and he's a decent contact guy. he grounded into 3 double plays in 51ABs...sue him. i'm lookin at the rest of the market out there...it's dead and Young is a hometown guy and good for the locker room. not sure if you've noticed, but we've lost a lot of good locker room guys like Punto, Shoe, and Marky Ellis. you've got people in here comparing Young's season long WAR to Justin Sellers' WAR over his tiny little MLB stint and shit...it's getting ridiculous. show me a better option as a utility guy...we're talking a utility guy here. nobody's looking for him to start on a daily basis. no matter what people wanna say about Guerrero...one of the main goals of the front office this off-season was to get younger in the lineup...Guerrero's gonna play. they have 28 million reasons to start him. when you've missed a year and a half of baseball in general, and then missed much of winter ball, and you're still the leader at your position i think you can take it to the bank.

Wow, you're a real fan of this guy. Okay. Great. Just remember he is 37 years old. And, unfortunately, the way things go around here, these old utility guys always end up starting for long stretches of time - way, way beyond their intended role. It could be, in reality, an opportunity to SUCK.

But don't brush off those double plays - they were brutal. PLAYOFFS. Right in front of world. The chips were down and he FAILED. That's my point. As far as I'm concerned those double plays ERASED whatever numbers he put up. That's how bad it was. He is now a legendary RALLY KILLER. I sure don't want him on my bench. Am I a hater? Well, I'm still good and ticked off about it. And I expect to be in the playoffs again this year - and go all the way. I just don't want to see that guy in that position again - ever.
