Serious that his bat is the question with him? Serious as a heart attack.
It's certainly not his D, only if he'll hit. I'm not saying he won't....maybe he'll be Ted Williams reincarnate...and wouldn't that be a hoot? Just a bit odd to project him that highly offensively, I thought. They'll not only be looking at how he catches the ball...and he might suck and be great the next year.
Lots of guys come up with flashing leather and are expected to do whatever offensively, and it's the bat that sends them to mediocrity, very seldom the D (if they've had it in the minors). We've had a few in our day...as everyone else. Joc could rock; I hope so. It's real important that he does.

This is ultimately the problem with having a win-now team. We can't let Pederson grow organically when he needs to. We're also in an age where Puig, Trout and Harper have all reached or exceeded expectations. They've spoiled us.

Growing pains happen. It's going to happen with Joc. He might end up a bust, but he might end up average or above average this year, and ultimately grow into the player you're hoping you were supposed to see this past year in his minimal appearances.

No, but his strikeout rate in the minors is pretty concerning. His minor league numbers were pretty strong, but he played in a very hitter friendly ballpark. I'm hoping for the best, but skeptical.

Which is why, if he does lock up the CF job, he'll be hitting towards the bottom of the lineup where his K's will hurt less.

We're talking about a guy who's gonna be hitting in the 7 or 8 hole this year, so its not like they're gonna look for clean up hitter type numbers from him or thrust him onto the top of the lineup as they did with Puig. So because of where he'll be hitting, they're gonna be on him more about his defense by default and trying to have him clean up the defensive lapses he's been known to have.

He's going to have growing pains at the plate, particularly hitting close or directly in front of the pitcher..but that defense of his must be tight from day 1.

And if his defense isn't up to par, maybe he finds himself in RF..in Citizen's Bank Park that is. He better get out there and establish himself as the captain of the outfield.

You're obsession with me is a little worrisome...is it getting hard for you to hide, or you just don't give a fuck anymore? Jumping in on other posters replies to me just to get a shot in is a bit overboard, and reeks of adolescence...even for you, Sparky.
Stop acting menopausal, and mind your own business.
What, what you write is the way it is, and no one can opine the opposite ? In fact if I read a whole post from you, and I disagree, then my gut tells me I'm right...
With me, it's the personal angle that's the thing with you, not BB at all....any chance to express you're hatred for me; but don't you think that's just a little....uh...too" bitchy" for a BB website? You've done it more than once.
For chrissakes, do you think it's just a bit revealing about you, maybe?
OK, go ahead now...a golden opportunity for you.

The Phillies asked the Brewers for a “top prospect” in return for closer Jonathan Papelbon if the club was to pick up a big piece of the remainder of his deal, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (in a piece we cited earlier this morning).

" Hard to believe " seems to be the theme this morning. I don't even know if Rosendouche could make this up. Amaro never ceases to amaze.

    • The Red Sox have plenty of leverage in their pursuit of Phillies lefty Cole Hamels, writes Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. That’s because “even the second-best deal [Amaro] can get for Hamels from the Red Sox is likely better than he can get elsewhere,” as Abraham puts it. Even taking on most of the Hamels deal is going to leave plenty of value left to be accounted for in any trade scenario — another topic that Steve and I discuss — but Abraham suggests that the gap might be bridged by a package fronted by lefty Henry Owens and including several other top prospects not named Betts, Swihart, or Rodriguez.

I tend to agree. If Hamels goes anywhere it'll probably be Boston. I don't know why the Cubs aren't more involved though.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Source: Moncada worked out today for #Dodgers in Clearwater, FL. A number of the team’s top executives were in attendance.

I hope he's right about this...I wonder about Kemp's defense, though. I mean even when he was a Dodger. I never quite got how it went from A to Z.
Initially he had problems...pretty obvious he was floundering out there. then, but in just two seasons, I think, he made himself a GG CF and was , well...great out there. And had a cannon. I remember people posting all the time about it and how good he was...spectacular catches one after another.
Then, came the injury prone and DL sustaining version of Matt, and he went on his downward spiral...but it wasn't only the physical limitations that were showing; his routes and the way he tracked balls was loopy and sophmoric...how the hell does that happen all of a sudden? I get he doesn't have the old speed coming in, going back, etc., but WTF happened to his innate, instinctive routes for catching the ball?

He always took bad routes. He took one straight into the CF wall in Colorado...Dude was always meant to be a RF.

Even in his gold glove years his defense was overrated..he was a minus defender in those years. Definitely always meant to be in RF

This is why Ethier will not be traded. Might need an over paid veteran stop gap.

Heisey is for sure. Even though SVS was better than Ethier in CF last year..SVS is no CF. I would hope they'd turn to Puig before they turned to either SVS or Ethier for CF duty. Put SVS in right for a spell. SVS's performance at the plate suffered big time when he was playing CF. A sure sign of discomfort.

I find it ridiculous too. like, how can you project that when he's so unproven.

Farhan Zaidi Calls Prospect Julio Urias The 'Total Package'
by Nadia Tseng | Dodgers Nation — February 12, 2015

Between Joc Pederson and Corey Seager, the Los Angeles Dodgers should be pleased with the up-and-coming position players in their farm system. However, there’s one young player with even more hype than the aforementioned duo.

Scouts originally traveled to Mexico nearly three years ago to watch Cuban prospect Yasiel Puig work out, but a left-hander by the name of Julio Urias also caught their eye. Now an 18-year-old in the Dodgers farm system, Urias was recently named the top left-handed prospect By MLB Pipeline.

The future is bright for the young pitcher and general manager Farhan Zaidi sees Urias taking a high-speed route to the majors via USA Today’s Jorge L. Ortiz:

"They were both a year older and a level behind him. We're in uncharted territory," Zaidi said. "He's the total package. He's got a great delivery, three pitches he commands and tremendous poise."

He has posted incredible numbers in the minors so far, including two consecutive seasons with a sub 3.00 ERA. In 87.2 innings pitched last season, he struck out 109 batters making for an impressive 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings. In his two years thus far in the farm system, Urias has only competed at the High-A Level. For 2015, the top prospect is set to start in Double-A, although he will get a taste of the big leagues this spring in the major-league camp.

Although the young prospect is on a steady pace for the majors, the Dodgers have been cautious to not put Urias’ arm through too many innings and will likely continue to monitor his innings through 2015. It may be a few more years until the Dodgers see Urias at the Los Angeles, but the wait should be worth it.
