I'm not saying that those things don't matter, all I said is that I thought it's a little misleading. I also stated that it was a good stat. Like C2thab said though, they have gold gloves for a reason. Cabrera shouldn't be penalized because he plays a less demanding position than Trout. Granted, there's no comparison between Trout and Cabrera in defense, but to just write Cabrera off because he doesn't play CF is dumb. How is Camerica not considered a pitcher's park? That place is gigantic.

I don't even know what we're arguing about. Miggy got to the playoffs and won the triple crown. Trout had a phenomenal season, but other factors will cost him the MVP.

FWIW, I don't agree with the whole "you have to make the playoffs to win MVP", but that's just how they do it nowadays.

Yea, not much else needed. Until we hear otherwise, I think they have to operate under the assumption that Bills will miss next season.

Seems to be that the following are all but locked-in for next year:
    Catchers
    AJ Ellis
    FedEx or Treanor

    Infielders:
    1B Gonzalez
    2B Mark Ellis
    2B/3B Punto
    3B Uribe :barf:
    Util Hairston
    SS Ramirez
    SS/3B Cruz

    Outfielders
    LF Crawford
    RF Ethier
    CF Kemp

    Pitchers
    Kershaw
    Beckett
    *Lilly
    *Capuano
    *Harang
    Paco Rodriguez
    Matt Guerrier
    Kenley Jansen
    Ronald Beilsario
    *2 of the 3

    So that's 20 guys.

If Trout wins the MVP this year there going to be a lot of splaining needing to be done by MLB and the writers as Bud will have a disaster on his hands. Last year and I will make this racial. A Black baseball player named Kemp had a record year and came closer than anyone else to winning a triple crown as anyone had in years. He came within one home run of having a 40/40 season etc etc etc. But he lost to a White guy who had great stats but not nearly as good and the explaination was but his team made the playoffs. Hmmm ok got it. So now this year a Hispanic player actually wins the triple crown and makes the playoffs and might not win the MVP and loses it to a white guy who had a great year but not as great a year because he stole more bases and played better defense? Wait and the Black guy who finished second last year won a gold glove and stole more bases than the White guy who won it? MLB gonna have a lot of splaining to do and a lot of pissed off folks and more controversy than Bud needs at this point. The comparisions of the two years and the outcomes and the logic used to explain it would be stunning.

Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw finished with a major league-leading 2.53 ERA, pitching his team to Wednesday night's win, a day after being eliminated from playoff contention for the third straight year by the NL West champions. Kershaw (14-9) allowed one run and three hits in eight innings, struck out eight and walked three in his 33rd start, tying a career high. He assessed his season as "all right." "If we make the playoffs next season, it will be a great year," Kershaw said. "Not making the postseason, that's kind of what we play for." The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner recorded 229 strikeouts, one behind NL leader R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets. The left-hander became the first pitcher to lead the league in ERA in consecutive seasons since Arizona's Randy Johnson in 2001-02. Kershaw became the first Dodgers pitcher to do so since Sandy Koufax accomplished the feat from 1962-66.

Fuck Trout, he's an Angel, isn't he. WTF?
It's going to be hard enough watching Buster "Napoleon Dynamite" Posey win MVP in the NL....and then an Angel in the AL?
Did Kemp deserve it last year? Did he test positive for banned substances/ highest count ever? Did he win?
Fuck the whole world if a Giant and an Angel win them both. Fuck it anyway if they don't.

As famous Hipanic Ricky Ricardo used to say, "'splaining" ain't got nothing to do with it.
Selig is a fucking coward that punked out from doing what a good BB Commish should have done when 'roids took over. He cowered in the fucking corner, quivering behind the player's union, and allowed it all to fester to a point that traditional BB records now are in big time jeopardy.
He doesn't care about explaining anything-it's just too fucking bad if we don't like it. Is anyone satisfied with the explanantion of Braun's substance exoneration?
All ethnicities, please. What a pile of shit that was.
Whatever they do, it'll be all OK-whatever it is. No one will have to explain shit. We'll just have to eat it.
As long as there is another WC or DH or a jerkoff AS game that isn't one, really...or something to bring the extra asses in the seats, they don't give a shit how diluted or damaged the game becomes.
I wouldn't look for any 'splainin'...just maybe some complainin'.

I think we truly need a good CF as a 4th OF. Kemp might be an injury risk now...maybe not...but you all saw 2012. Add to that Ethier and Crawford are not exactly ironmen...it looks like our backup OFer choices are going to be important.

Also, I have 0 interest in keeping Dee Gordon in the majors. We have 0 use for him at this time and this is a perfect year to keep him in AAA and let him finally develop into the player he should become. Then he can come and move Ramirez to 3B IF Cruz finally comes back down to earth.

I laughed at that. He's not being "penalized", but playing a great CF is more important than playing a great 3B, that's a fact. Didn't look anything up, just providing an example, but say the average 3B hits .250/.320/.420, and say the average CF hits, say, .240/.300/.375, then having a .900 OPS in CF is more valuable than a .920 OPS at 3B, just because the average is so much lower. That's just common sense.

And Comerica has average dimensions. It didn't a few years ago before they moved the fences in, but now it plays neutral.

Fangraphs Positional value has both 3B and CF at 2.5 runs
BR has 3b at 2.5 and CF at 3 runs

Oh, we'll in your previous post you made it sound like Trout has a decent advantage because he plays CF.
