Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero seeking 4-year deal By Noah Jarosh | SB Nation -- 9 October 2013, 10:56 am Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero is seeking a four year contract to sign with an MLB team, though some interested clubs would prefer to go longer, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Guerrero defected from Cuba in January 2013 and has been looking to latch on in the MLB. The Dodgers had reportedly agreed to a five year, $32 million contract with him but those talks fell through. It has been rumored that Guerrero now wants a better overall contract than what the Dodgers offered. The 26-year-old decided to not play in the Cuban Serie Nacional league for their 2012-13 season citing lack of motivation. Factoring into that decision was his disappointment in not being named to the final roster for the national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. Heyman notes that the Dodgers, Giants, Rangers, Reds and Red Sox all remain interested in signing Guerrero. He would likely play second base in the MLB, but could still be a shortstop. Guerrero hit .310/.400/.599 during the 2011-12 Cuban season and has socked 60 home runs in 866 at-bats in the last three seasons he played. __
Borasssssss again. I know it worked out with Ryu but he'll always be the focus of my disdain and outright hate sorry!
Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if they ended up signing him for 4 years instead of 5 thanks to bust factor if this guy can't pan out. A reason 5 is better is that is coincides more nicely with the expiring contracts of AGon and Greinke while piggy backing on Crawford and Ethier's the year before.
The Dodgers are going to acquire David Price, Howie Kendrick and Giancarlo Stanton this off season, then purchase the Oakland A's to replenish the farm.
Dodgers Still In Mix For Alexander Guerrero By Zach Links [October 15 at 9:36pm CST] The Dodgers thought they had a deal with Cuban second baseman Alexander Guerrero several weeks ago, but the pact dissolved when it was discovered that Guerrero's first representatives were not certified agents. Since then, the Dodgers have said that their previous five-year, $32MM deal was off the table, but that may have just been posturing. The Dodgers are again one of a few teams in the thick of the Guerrero talks, people familiar with the discussions tell Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Since the L.A. deal fell apart, Guerrero signed on with Scott Boras and the agent immediately opened the bidding back up to all major league clubs. Now, the 26-year-old is only seeking a four-year deal so that he can once again become a free agent at the age of 30. Many of the clubs in the mix for Guerrero are seeking a longer pact, but Heyman writes that the team willing to meet his asking price on a four-year deal will be the victor. The Giants, Rangers, Red Sox, and Reds have also been connected to Guerrero in recent weeks. However, Reds GM Walt Jocketty said yesterday that he expects the Cuban to sign elsewhere and a Rangers source suggested to Heyman that they're not making an aggressive push for him. Heyman adds that it's possible the Cardinals will get involved with Guerrero this winter. __
Apparently some scouts are calling this guy a good Dan Uggla type hitter. I'll take that in this line up.
