Defense and handling of the pitching staff is always the staple of Dodgers catchers. Piazza was one dimensional. Campy was the exception being both.
Martin is a good player, and steady...but NOT worth the $10 million he's gonna ask for after this contract season he's putting up. And especially not in this ballpark. Look at his numbers between 2008 and this season...that's what he's gonna do after a new contract. Plus he's a catcher on the wrong side of 30. That's not to mention the taste of crap he left in everyone's mouth when he left.
I am one of those Martin fans who feels Ned went cheap on him and would welcome him back and hope he comes back. I would welcome Broxton also. We could use both of them right now. No spot for Loney but the other two yes.
I think he's worth $10M... if Dan Haren gets $10M, Martin can definitely get $10M, he's a "3 win" catcher easily
:dizzy: Great, now we know that you think Haren is worth $10 million. Fuck it, let's give everybody $10 million, reserve infielders, ball boys, parking lot attendants, the guy that spits on your windshield to wash it...
I would love Martin back in the 8 hole for us. With Ellis still around, he could still split plenty of AB's and get the rest he needs to be a valuable piece. I'm not sure what to take of his NY numbers as a most who watched him, felt he was selling out for more power in the smaller stadium.
no on russ 5 years of hitting a collective .234 speak louder than .280 in a walk year not buying that he's suddenly figured things out (again) that said, he's still a huge upgrade over aj... at least offensively
